About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Do you bike and vote? Tell our Senators not to gut bike/ped funding
by elliott        Austin On Two Wheels
League of American Bicyclists mounts e-mail campaign “I Bike, I Vote.”

Since they were elected into power on Capitol Hill last fall, Congressional Republicans have been on a war path to eliminate government spending they consider wasteful. The latest project on the chopping block is the Transportation Enhancements (TE) program which creates safe space on the roads for vulnerable users like cyclists and pedestrians and to a lesser degree highway beautification. In a move to encourage more active…

by Christopher Curnutt        Biking In Dallas

Missoni for Target collection

Missoni is an Italian fashion house based in Varese that’s known for making colorful knitwear, housewares and such.  The kind of stuff your wife asks you to go shopping with her for and you’d rather have a root canal instead. Turns out they partnered with Target stores not long ago to produce affordable apparel and other goodies known…

Texas Parks and Wildlife just sent out this press release about Bastrop State Park:
Sept. 13, 2011
Cleanup efforts underway at fire-blackened Bastrop State Park

BASTROP – Bastrop State Park will be closed through at least October as Texas Parks and Wildlife Department personnel continue to douse hot spots on the mostly-burned property and begin assessing damage as well as developing a plan to get the park reopened to the public.

Blue Line gets (well-deserved) national notice
blog.chron.com
No one has to tell Heights residents what a great bike shop Blue Line Bike Lab is, but now the local business is getting some well-deserved national recognition as well.

The League of American Cyclists has awarded Blue Line, 3302 White Oak, a Fall 2011 Silver Level honor as a Bicycle Friendly Business. The only other Houston area bike shop to be so honored by the group is Bikesport, 2909 Joanel, a bronze level winner in 2010. Other Houston area businesses on the…

Fort Belknap: The ‘silent jewel’ of Young County
by David Rupkalvis             www.grahamleader.com
Fort Belknap is a jewel in Young County, but it should be used more to attract tourists.
That’s the message county commissioners heard Monday when Margaret Hoogstra, executive director of Texas Forts Trail, discussed the trail that includes eight frontier forts in north and central Texas.

Hoogstra explained that for decades, Texas has been split into 10 travel regions to attract tourists. The forts trail is designed to draw those interested in Texas history. Best of all, the regions do their job. …

Truck on the trail.
by Justin        Seen On The Train
…I am back into the swing of riding, and feeling pretty good about myself. I did try to go for a longer ride on Labor Day, but the wind was terrible, and I found myself lying by the side of the road about twenty miles in, with my chest heaving like I just started riding. This weekend I’m working the RV Supershow, but I’ll do my best to squeeze in a ride on Sunday morning. I need to do at least 35 or 40 miles in order to build up to…
