About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

by djcurtin        It’s Time To Ride!
Any enthusiast road cyclist worth his weight in carbon fiber has thought, “I sure would love to spend a few days just…riding.”  Even if you read all the magazines, spend lunch hours skulking around your local bike shop, hit up your local club rides, done a few charity rides, and maybe even pinned on a number at a race or two, when it comes down to it, you just want to ride.

But even the most dedicated roadie, who logs miles and miles along trusted and well-worn routes, longs for the new road.  And for new road cyclists, nothing can inspire and motivate more than seeing what “just riding” for…

They’re Closing The Gap Between Preston Ridge Trail and Cottonwood Trail
by dickdavid        Bike Friendly Richardson

Blue Is The Preston Ridge Trail. Green Is The Cottonwood Trail.

If you’ve ever tried to ride the Preston Ridge Trail from Richardson, Plano or even north Dallas into downtown Dallas, you might of found it a bit difficult. Sure it’s a good trail that leads towards downtown, but it falls short on Coit Road, between Belt Line Road and Spring Valley Road. The closest connections into town would be either…

Garden grows family bond
AMARILLO, Texas (AP) — Ronnie Kimbrell sat in the doorway of his greenhouse surveying this year’s tomato crop from his wheelchair with the hint of a smile pulling at the edge of his lips.

…What started as a simple idea in 1990 when Kimbrell worked at Whole Foods Market in Richardson quickly became an obsession as he poured himself into researching Texas-friendly produce.

During bicycle rides through the countryside north of McKinney, Kimbrell passed by fields that fueled his fixation, and before long he envisioned himself growing strawberries in the north Texas countryside. …

Cleanup Day On The White Rock Creek Trail
by dickdavid        Bike Friendly Richardson

I decided to join The Friends Of The White Rock Creek Trail and help them with their trail clean up efforts this morning. Unfortunately, I got a late start and didn’t make it to the kick-off at 8:00 am. On the way there I did see a few people already on the trail, picking up trash. The staging area at Harry Moss Park was still up and the nice…
