About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

By Caley Fretz    velonews.competitor.com
As we reported last December, Shimano is adding a second electronic group to its lineup for 2012.

In a press release, Shimano confirmed that the new Ultegra-level group will be called Ultegra Di2 and will have a retail price slightly below that of the current mechanical Dura-Ace group.

The new group isn’t just a heavier version of Dura-Ace Di2, though. It receives a number of updates that…

Tour de Longneques Saturday June 25th
by donbynum

The next episode of the periodic and largely spontaneous Tour de Longneques is this coming Saturday, June 25th.  This is a militantly unorganized and officially unsupported (though we have always had at least one SAG vehicle out) informal gang ride.  There is no entry fee, registration, bib #, nor official organizer.  Just come join us and have some fun.

Getting up at 5:20AM – June 19th Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on June 19, 2011 by Rick AnkrumJune 19, 2011

Getting up at 5:20AM to get started on my Father’s Day ride was not a problem. I was able to get started on the ride at 6:04AM which was about 5 minutes earlier than last Sunday. The early start today was with 82 degrees and the humidity was about the same in percent at 76%. For about the first 8 miles I thought the wind was calm until I saw the Porter Whataburger US flag waving strongly in the wind. The WalMart flag next door was in agreement. When I started the clouds were ruling the sky but as the ride progressed they thinned to mostly cloudy at the end. The temperature was 82 at the finish as well. Once I got home I found out the wind was 12 mph from the south.

Along the ride I saw two men flying a remote control model airplane, plenty of rabbits in the grass beside the road and a father pushing a stroller and walking the dog. I don’t know if this was a Father’s Day trip for them or just the norm. Later on I met another father out with his son. The son was riding a small bike with training wheels while the father walked behind.

This early start should pay off by avoiding the high temperature this afternoon. Yesterday afternoon my home weather station was showing 103 degrees with a nice wind to help you feel like I was in a convection oven. Rain is till being possibility on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

I rode 25.22 miles today bringing the weekly total to 164.77. June miles are at 451.66. At this pace I might hit 70 for the month. Year to date miles are now 2629.38. My average speed was 15.1 mph and average cadence was 79.4 rpm.
