About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Daily Texas Bicycling News Roundup June 9th

Lone Star Cyclists June Shifting Times Newsletter

Tyler Bicycle Club Time Trial – Intersection 69 and FM 177
by Bike Tyler
When: Thu Jun 16, 2011 6pm to Thu Jun 16, 2011 8pm  CDT
Who: Scott Franklin
Where: Intersection 69 and FM 177 about 7 miles North of Jacksonville
Event Description: An individual time trial is a road bicycle event in which cyclists compete alone against the clock. Time trials are NOT a competition between riders but are for an individual to compare their times and measure their progress and are great for training. Time trials are also referred to as “the race of truth”, as performance depends only on each rider’s strength and endurance, and not on the help provided by team-mates and others riding ahead and creating a slipstream for drafting. These are great for beginning cyclists and triathletes alike as you can compare times to mark improvement. Starting times are at equal intervals, usually one or two minutes apart. There is no pre-registration, just show up!

Cycling – Kingsland / Sunrise Beach Loop 6/8/2011
by donbynum
We had 5 cyclists who made it out for the Wednesday Evening Group Ride which Mike Thayer organizes each week during the summer.  The temperature had been a pretty scary 101+ at 4pm, but as we were rolling out at 6:30, the temperature was down to a tolerable 92 degrees with a 6-10mph dry south wind making the start…

This evening’s ride was moving right along until – June 9th Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on June 9, 2011 by Rick AnkrumJune 9, 2011

This evening’s ride was moving right along until about the 23.8 mile mark when I ran over a piece of glass and the air escaped from my rear tire. Imagine that! The weather was quite comfortable with clear skies, a 13 mph SSE breeze and 84 degrees. When I stopped to patch the tube a gentle from one of the restaurants at Kings Harbor was curious and came over to “get some pointers” on how I patched the tube. He said if I could not fix it he would give a ride home. I actually fixed the problem in a rather quick amount of time and got back on the road. The sun was setting as I pulled into the driveway at 8:41. I altered the route slightly today.

There were not many “serious” bikers out this evening but there a number of easy recreational riders heading south on W. Lake Houston Parkway bridge just before I had the flat. I waved as I met them.

The ride was 28.47 miles with an average speed of 14.9 mph and a max speed of 20.4 mph. The average cadence was 80.2 rpm. I am making progress on the June mileage which is now at 207.39 and the year to date mileage is 2385.10. This week’s mileage stands at 85.84. With two more rid days this week I should have even more progress.
