About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

I did not dress warm enough – May 2nd Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on May 2, 2011 by Rick AnkrumMay 2, 2011

I did not dress warm enough for my ride this evening. By the time I got home from work, got dressed and left on my bike ride a cool front was moving through our area. The temperature dropped about 10 degrees and the wind moved to the north at 19.6 mph. As I was riding down my street I almost went back to get more clothing but I thought I would get warmed up enough from the exercise. This did not really happen so whenever I turned north or stopped the wind went through my long sleeve jersey making for a chilly ride. I started to shorten my distance several times but decided to ride at last 20 miles which I just made at 20.01. My average speed was just 14.1 mph due to the high wind and chill. Average cadence was 75.4 rpm but I did get up 23.6 mph maximum speed. Miles for May are at 44.98 and year to date miles are 1547.65.
