About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Hotter’N Hell Hundred 2011 – The 30th Anniversary Edition
Registration will open at 12:01AM on January 1, 2011. A link to the registration will be posted as the date nears.

The 30th version of the Hotter’N Hell Hundred Weekend will take place beginning on Thursday August 25, 2011 and run through Sunday August 28th. Online registration is now available. The links to BikeReg.com for the HHH Endurance Ride, The HHH Pace Group and the HHH Ultra Road Races and Criterium races will be available on this site prior to January 1st.
Several things happen during the Hotter’N Hell weekend. The activities that comprise the HHH are: Registration, Consumer Show, Spaghetti Dinner, USA Cycling Criterium Race, USA Cycling Road Race, the Hotter’N Hell Hundred Endurance Ride, an Off-Road bicycle race, off-road trail run along with entertainment food and fellowship at the Finish Line Village. In other words, HHH is not just one day, it is at least 4 days of challenging and inspiring activities.

Endurance cyclists will face wind and heat with the help of 4,000 event volunteers on routes up to 100 miles. The Hotter ‘N Hell Hundred route is rolling with some long inclines accentuated by incessant wind. With the huge consumer products show, off-road mountain biking and USA Cycling Races over the weekend, the Hotter ‘N Hell offers an awesome start and the greatest weekend on two wheels. If you are going to ride 100 miles, the best place to do it is at the Hotter ‘N Hell Hundred!
10K – 25 mile – 50 mile – 100K  – 100 mile
Riders for the 100 miles need to be aware of Hell’s Gate! Hell’s gate is located at the 60.3 mile mark on the 100 mile route. Hell’s Gate normally closes at 12:30 p.m. unless weather conditions force an early closure. Riders who reach Hell’s Gate after closure are directed to a shorter route that finishes the day with 84 miles. This year, rest stops prior to Hell’s Gate will display closure status so riders can adjust their pace to reach Hell’s Gate prior to closing. The process for closing Hell’s Gate will be reviewed in the Ride Tabloid mailed during the spring of 2011.

Rosedale Ride – Austin, TX

Texbiker.net Posted on December 29, 2010 by Rick AnkrumDecember 29, 2010

Rosedale Ride – 17th Annual
Presented by Samsung Austin Semiconductor
Austin, TX
Saturday, March 26, 2011
Online Registration Will Open Thursday, December 30, 2010 at 12:01 AM ET
Date:  Saturday, March 26
Ride Start:  8:30 am
Location:  Samsung Austin Semiconductor, 12100 Samsung Boulevard, Austin, 78754

Please join us at Samsung for the 17th annual Rosedale Ride.
20, 43, 63 Miles Routes
Registration $35.00
Numbers are funny. One is 1-derful. Three is the charm. Nine is for revolutions, and 11 makes a football team. 16 is, of course, always sweet. But now there’s Rosedale Ride 17. Can 17 really be sweeter than 16? Last year’s weather was perfect, the roads were smooth, the rest stops friendly and the music toe-tapping, so it’s going to be a challenge. But our planning is underway, we’re feeling good, and we’re hoping to make 17 even better than our most excellent 16. Samsung will, as always, graciously host. The volunteers are psyched. The roads are being checked and rechecked. Even the music is being booked as this is being written. We have a good feeling about 17.

The Rosedale Ride is an annual bike ride benefiting Rosedale School, the Austin Independent School District’s only school for children with multiple disabilities. Open to cyclists of all abilities, the ride offers different courses to suit anyone. This year the Rosedale Ride has four courses to choose from: a Kid’s Fun Ride; or courses of 20, 43 or 63 miles. The ride begins and ends at Samsung, winding through the gently rolling countryside east of Austin.

This year, we are making changes to Package Pickup and the Silent Auction.  Put simply, we thought your visit to the School should be more fun. Wouldn’t it be better if there was food and music to go along with walk-in registration? We thought so. So we’re making it a celebration. We have contacted some fine restaurants and we have conscripted some excellent musicians and we’re laying out the welcome mat right now. We’re making the Silent Auction more fun and exciting, too. No more waiting until Saturday afternoon to see if you’ve won. Instead, we’re accepting bids throughout the evening Thursday, then we’ll close the bidding, and we’ll distribute the goodies right there.

This will be a Thursday evening event only. Unlike years past, the School will not be open Friday for registration. This will give the staff some rest the evening before the Ride.
