About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Chihuahuan Desert Dirt Fest | Off-road MTB Festival
Presented by Desert Sports, as a benefit for the Big Bend Trails Alliance
Terlingua, TX
Thursday, February 17, 2011 to Saturday, February 19, 2011
Online Registration Will Open Saturday, January 01, 2011 at 12:01 AM ET
We’re looking forward to seeing y’all out here in West Texas for three days of the most excellent mountainbiking. It’s a Celebration! We’re celebrating with the Big Bend Ranch State Park the official opening of their IMBA EPIC designation (the Fresno/Sauceda Loop), on Saturday; but that’s not all! There’ll be rides for all abilities on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Even rides for the kids!

We’ll be exploring the State Park, as well as the Classic trails on the Lajitas Resort, the Old Ore Road in the National Park and more! We’ll be gathering for mixers after each day’s ride; and if that’s not enough fun for ya, we’ll also be gathering at all your local favorite watering holes in the evenings for dining, dancing and discussion of all the great riding!

With the co-operation of the Lajitas Golf Resort and Spa we’ll be hosting the event out of the Maverick Ranch RV Park (conveniently located very near the Big Bend Ranch State Park as well!) There’s lots of room for you, your trailer or tent and all your bikes! (Contact Lajitas directly to make reservations for spaces)

Texbiker.net Posted on December 28, 2010 by Rick AnkrumDecember 28, 2010

With the blizzard hitting the north and northeast parts of the country Lifehacker.com decided bikers needed some winter riding tips and hints. We don’t need these so much in Texas but they could come in handy.

via Lifehacker by Kevin Purdy on 12/28/10
With the right maintenance and equipment trade-outs, you can keep biking in winter. One thing you shouldn’t do, though, is wear a heavy coat. It furnaces the heat you create when pedaling, and then freezes your sweat during your frequent stops. …

Cycling – Nice post-Christmas ride with Gil Jones
from Don Bynum’s Blog by donbynum
Hopefully this missive will find everyone basking in the warm afterglow of Christmas/Hannuka (pick your own spelling)/Winter Solstice goat dances, or whatever.

Yesterday, Gil Jones (riding his shiny new Scattante 570 Prostate Crusher) and I did a 28 miler out to the northeast of Burnet, around to the south to Bertram, stopped at the Hungry Moose in Bertram, then on to the southwest to catch CR330 back into Burnet.  Even in the dead of winter, the Hill Country…
