About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

BikeTX petitions against Bartonville ban
from Bike Denton by bikedenton
First, it was Blackhawk, Colorado’s extreme ban of cycling through the downtown, and now we see Bartonville, TX attempting to regulate cyclists off the roads with ordinance 494-10. While this debacle is pretty unrelated to most of our commuting-ish topics in Denton, the topic is still a black cloud for area cyclists and an embarrassing specter amidst our national movement towards bike friendliness. …

DFW Point-to-Point: HH100 Report – Bike Town USA
by Steve A
I’ve heard some opine that bike rallies are more part of the cycling problem than the solution. I think that overgeneralizes. Some bike rallies do demonstrable good for cyclists in the communities that they’re held. I think the “Hotter ‘N Hell Hundred” is an example of such. Actually, come to think of it, it’s also the only bike rally I’ve ridden in over the last…

Wichita Falls Overpass

2010 Hotter’N Hell Hundred
Thanks to each and everyone of you that helped make the 2010 Hotter’N Hell Hundred a record breaking event in all respects! We are still wrapping up loose ends!  Here are some answers to a number of questions we’ve had in the past couple of days:

2010 HHH participation:

*HHH Endurance Ride – 13067:  Record Number of Riders!
* HHH USCF Racers – 720: Record Number of Racers!
* Wee-Chi-Tah Off Road Bicycle Race- 315: Record Number of Racers!
* Wee-Chi-Tah Off Road Trail Run- 345; Record Number of Runners!
* Total Weekend Registration: 14,445 Record number of Participants!
* Consumer Show had a record number of vendors displaying their products.
*
The Ultra Finish Line Village held record numbers of riders who stayed to enjoy the music, water canon, and comraderie.  Some say the Ultra Finish Line Village is like the atmosphere found at the base area of a ski resort minus the snow.  Sounds COOL!

Threatening clouds But No Rain – September 2nd Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on September 2, 2010 by Rick AnkrumSeptember 2, 2010

[iframe http://connect.garmin.com:80/activity/embed/47321941 465 548]

Driving home from work this evening I thought my ride was going to be rained out but when I got to Humble the clouds dried up and so did the streets. I was able to go for the ride but the dark clouds were to the west. I was thinking that I might have to call my wife to come get me in the rain but that was not necessary. The temperature was in the low 80’s, wind was calm and the skies were overcast. No riders were out again. After today riding will be less regular until later in the month.

Today’s ride statistics:

  • miles 22.25
  • riding time 1:32:36
  • average pace 4;10 min/mile
  • average speed 14.4 mph
  • max speed 20.3 mph
  • average cadence 76.1 rpm
  • max cadence 107 rpm
  • climb 181 ft., descend 164 ft., max elevation 76 ft.
  • September miles 44.60
  • YTD miles 3744.55
