About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Texas Bicycling Blog and News Roundup for September 1st

Cycling – Mormon Mill to Burnet and Back (21 riders!)
from donbynum.wordpress.com
Gil Jones got us hooked up with two or three loosely connected groups that often make 26-50 mile rides from Marble Falls, leaving and eventually returning on, Mormon Mill Road (Burnet CR340).
Cycling between Marble Falls and Burnet in Burnet County, TX

A plan came together and we met in a church parking lot on Mormon Mill Rd for a 7am departure on a great Saturday morning.   The temperature at 7am was in the upper 60s (YEA! YIPPIE, maybe summer is relenting a bit!) and there was virtually no wind, so I was not missing any fun sailing. …

Oncor here and there
from Bike Denton by bikedenton
As seen in the newspaper this week, Oncor is making headlines in Denton County over its defeated proposal to cut across the popular Greenbelt trail.  You can see the proposed routes here.

The newly formed Greenbelt Alliance pulled together some impressive muscle and turned out en masse at the county hearing to fight Oncor’s route across the Greenbelt.  It worked, and Oncor now has to consider other routes instead.

I’m admittedly a little confused how much of this is nearby landowner NIMBY and how much is actual fight to preserve the Greenbelt.  Just saying…

Texas 4000 for Cancer partners with LiveStrong
By Pam Leblanc | Wednesday, September 1, 2010, 12:32 PM
by Austin 360 (blog)
Big news from the Texas 4000 for Cancer folks, who just wrapped up their seventh 4,687-mile bicycle ride from Austin to Anchorage in the name of cancer awareness.

The non-profit organization is teaming up with LiveStrong as a title sponsor, starting next year.

It makes sense. Both groups are on a mission to help those affected by cancer, either through funding research and spreading the word about…

September is off to a good start with the weather moderating from the highs of August. According to the SciGuy blog in the Houston Chronicle this August was one of the warmest ones on record. Today’s temperature was 88 degrees during the ride with mostly cloudy skies and a light 4 mph breeze. Riding seemed harder with the wind feeling more than the 4 mph. No riders were seen. The streets were dry.

Today’s ride statistics:

  • riding time 1:31:33
  • average pace 4:06 min/mile

  • max cadence 101 rpm
  • climb 189 ft., descend 180 ft., max elevation 79 ft.
  • September miles 22.35
  • YTD miles 3722.30

Bicycling in a world built for CARS!: Riding to Dallas and Back!
by Commute-a-sarus
My legs were feeling heavy after Hotter’n Hell this past weekend, so I needed a long slow ride. Carola needed a new bike light and REI had the one she wanted on crazy sale. I called around FTW to see if anyone could beat the price and no one could match it, so off  I went on an adventure. I have never ridden on this route further east than Grapevine so I was a little apprehensive…
