About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Over $2,500 in cash and 30 state champions jerseys for the taking!!
Richest championship weekend in Texas history!!
Start Order same as Order of Categories Listed above in Registration Table (Top to Bottom). First rider off at 7:01AM. Riders at 30 second intervals. Riders seeded in reverse order of registration in their respective category entered, i.e. first rider to register is last to go in their category. Course is open to traffic. Riders are expected to stay in the shoulder or closest to edge of road as possible. When avoiding debris or passing other riders – do so with caution (make sure there isn’t a car creeping up behind you).

All races, whether 10, 20 or 40km, are an out-and-back format on the same combination of in-town and out-of-town farm roads. The 10km course simply turns around at about 3 miles out of town; the 20km turns around at about 6 miles and the 40km about 12 miles.

At this time, we are being vague about the exact location of the course. While the folks in Floresville have been more than fantastic to work with, we don’t want to wear out our welcome by inundating the town leading up the event. We appreciate your understanding on this aspect of the race.

July 8th Bike Ride – Wow! They Sure Dried Fast!

Texbiker.net Posted on July 8, 2010 by Rick AnkrumJuly 8, 2010

On the way to work this morning I pretty much wrote off today for riding but on the way home I noticed the streets were pretty dry in my area so I began to think riding was possible. While the skies were overcast with the occasional break for the sun. Wind was a light 8 mph from the SE. Temperature felt cool when I left home at 84 degrees. Over the last two days the area had almost 8 inches of rain. This more than we usually have all month.

After one day off the bike due to the rain it was good to get back on. It is amazing how fast the streets dry off once the rain stops. I think it was still raining at 3:00 PM but by 6:30 PM I had to look closely to see signs of the rain. For a moment I was saying to myself “take today off and ride on Friday.” Friday is normally a rest day to prepare for Saturday’s long ride. The drying out changed my mind.

Today’s Ride Statistics:

  • miles = 22.86
  • riding time = 1:30:30
  • average pace = 3:58 min/mile
  • average speed = 15.2 mph
  • max speed = 20.0 mph
  • average cadence = 79.6 rpm
  • max cadence = 105 rpm
  • climb 156 ft., descend 153 ft., max elevation 109 ft.
  • July miles 126.33
  • YTD miles 2692.99
