About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

101 Heat Index With Little Puffy Clouds – June 17th Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on June 17, 2010 by Rick AnkrumJune 17, 2010

My riding back to where I was continued this evening. The southern breeze made the ride seem harder than it should have been but I kept turning the pedals knowing the headwind would end soon. Once I turned east the wind was my friend and I made some good time. The low humidity (39-46%), fluffy little clouds, 93 degree temperature were my ideal conditions. Twice today at work I had to walk outside to thaw out. There were three ladies sitting on the retaining wall doing the same thing.

Six riders passed riding the opposite direction while I was on Fairlake Drive. I suspect some of them are the speedsters that have passed me in the past. Tomorrow is a rest day in preparation for Saturday’s ride.

Today’s ride statistics:

  • miles = 27.15
  • riding time = 1:53:05
  • average pace = 4:10 min/mile
  • average speed = 14.4 mph
  • max speed = 18.5 mph
  • average cadence = 76.2 rpm
  • max cadence = 102 rpm
  • climb 218 ft., descend 211 ft., max elevation 103 ft.
  • June miles 269.82
  • YTD miles 2310.57

Today Was A Good Day – June 16th Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on June 16, 2010 by Rick AnkrumJune 16, 2010

Today I returned to work from my health interruption. Work turned out nice; I wasn’t too far behind with emails and phone messages. By the end of the day I had worked through most of them.

I was wondering how my evening ride would go since I haven’t ridden since last Wednesday with my hospital stay in between. The ride felt great. Despite the 102 degree heat index when I left work the air seemed dry and the puffy clouds offered my picture of life in Texas. The breeze ( 9 mph SE) was not over powering my efforts as I made my way along the route I had planned all day. Even though another rider zoomed by a couple of times I still rode with a gentle effort. One of the main things today was to offload all of the IV fluid that was pumped into me during the hospital visit. I think that was accomplished but in the morning I will know better. I look forward to tomorrow’s ride as well.

Today’s ride statistics:

  • miles = 24.36
  • riding time = 1:40:59
  • average pace = 4:09 min/mile
  • average speed = 14.5 mph
  • max speed = 19.3 mph
  • average cadence = 77.6 rpm
  • max cadence = 102 rpm
  • climb 140 ft., descend 158 ft., max elevation 102 ft.
  • June miles 242.67
  • YTD miles 2283.42
