About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

RoadBikeRider.com Newsletter
Issue No. 439 – 04/22/10
Lon Haldeman is a big man with a big heart. Once the world’s No. 1 ultracyclist — winner of the first 2 Races Across America — he and his wife Susan Notorangelo have been helping roadies realize their long-ride dreams with PAC Tour for 29 years.

Not as well publicized have been Lon’s charitable efforts for underprivileged citizens of Ghana and Peru.

Example: Thanks to his initiatives with Christ Lutheran Church in his hometown of Sharon, Wisconsin, 2 schools for more than 700 students have been built in Peruvian jungle communities. …

BILL CULLINS: Watch out athletic egomaniacs, there’s a new sheriff …
by San Angelo Standard Times
During the 1970’s, a Texas oilman named Eddie Chiles did numerous radio commentaries. His trade-mark sign-on of “I’m Eddie Chiles, and I’m mad as hell” led to a widely distributed bumper sticker that read “I’m mad too, Eddie.”

Fast forward to 2010 and yes, Eddie, I’m mad too. In this case, the problem is egos.

As the self-appointed High Sheriff of Athlete Ego Issues, I’ve decided that this is Dodge City and I’m gonna take action. …

Bicycling in a world built for CARS!: Fort Worth Bike Route 360 is …
by Commute-a-sarus
Wish I didn’t have to Drive! Commuting by bicycle in Fort Worth, Texas! … The problem that is created by the city not keeping an established bicycle route clean and clear of debris, is that it forces riders to ride closer toward the center of the lane just to keep their bicycles from slipping and sliding around. Also the mud does clog the storm drains and cause standing water in the rain. I would rather not have to wrap myself completely in plastic just to get to work. …

Riders on the storm » Mineral Wells Index, Mineral Wells, TX
Despite a thorough drenching, bicycle racers turned out for this weekend’s Mineral Wells Stage Race and many raved about the course and community support.

The stage race seems to have firmly sealed Palo Pinto County on the bicycling map as having the third Texas bike race to offer rolling enclosures, which gave…

GardenScapes with Blue Skies, April 24th Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on April 24, 2010 by Rick AnkrumApril 24, 2010

Today was the Kingwood Garden Club GardenScapes home tour. We visited four homes and toured their gardens. The homes were beautiful as was the clear blue skies and mild temperatures. After returning home I took in the mid-80 degree temperature, clear skies and stiff winds to ride north and west into Montgomery County. The route has become a regular due to the road construction on FM1314. Hopefully in May the construction will move farther west and I can expand my route to Old Houston Road.

Today’s ride statistics:

  • miles = 46.40
  • riding time = 3:07:06
  • average pace = 4:02 min/mile
  • average speed = 14.9 mph
  • max speed = 21.5 mph
  • average cadence = 78.6 rpm
  • max cadence = 113
  • climb 375 ft., descend 467 ft.
  • April miles 488.67
  • YTD miles 1375.43
