About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

SMU Cycling: Races this weekend
by Nathan Scot
We held a crit this weekend. Andrew Armstrong of Matrix and USA Cycling did a fabulous job of organizing it, and Adam Tunks helped with registration, Fondren Library’s Rob Walker took HD pictures and video of the finishes and SMU’s Associate Director of Facilities Management and Sustainability Michael Vangeli helped design the course. Rob and Mike’s experience greatly assisted making the course as safe and challenging as it could possibly be in such a difficult venue (Rob used to race in Belgium, early 90’s on the cobbles of Flanders, and in innumerable European criteriums)…

Rookie
What fantastic ride! Lots of hills and fantastic scenery. I did a 42 mile for my first organized ride and it was great. Several people told me that it was a good test and a great training/conditioning ride. Sengleman Hall is a very cool old dance hall. It was a fun place to eat lunch and have a cold beer after the ride. Planning on doing this ride again next year and going back to Schulenburg in two weeks for the Lions Club ride. Organizers were a bit lax on getting the ride going and nowhere to be seen at the finish, otherwise 5 star for sure. …

Road Ride Tonight, Road Bike is Faster Than MY MTB

Texbiker.net Posted on March 15, 2010 by Rick AnkrumMarch 15, 2010

Tonight’s ride was the first after work since DST began. I rode faster than I have been doing on my MTB to no surprise. I prefer my road bike, it just fits better. My Mercier Serpens Ltd. 2.0 road bike is ready for the new season and I am too. It was 72 degrees when I got back with scattered clouds and a light NE wind at 6 mph. A cool front is supposed to arrive during the night and Tuesday is a rest day so the the timing is right.

Tonight’s ride statistics:

  • miles = 18.21
  • riding time = 1:13:09
  • average pace = 4:01 min/mile
  • average speed = 14.9
  • max speed = 21.2
  • average cadence = 79.7
  • max cadence = 105
  • YTD miles = 709.62

The Endeavors of Payson McElveen: (Dis)Comfort
by Payson McElveen
Today was the Comfort XC race and second race of my season. I feel like I have been getting stronger the last couple weeks, so I was looking forward to asserting that with a good result today. Unfortunately it wasn’t meant to be. I was caught up in a 3 rider … I stood there in disbelief for a few seconds, before Christian Smith, fastest woman in Texas and my previous coach, yelled at me to grab a bike from the Specialized Demo Trailer. Something clicked in my head, …

San Antonio Cycling Club: Look Ma…No jackets!
by Ray
Wow, this past weekend was great for riding! The weather was perfect. On both days the temperature started out in the mid fifties and ended in the high seventies.
On Saturday, the Paradise Canyon ride seemed to be a little easier on this trip than in the past. You think maybe they lowered the hill?
And on Sunday, after the Lonesome Oak ride, our group found…
