Last weekend I said I as going to follow Dr. Mirkin’s recommendation to ride easy after a hard ride. Well, I forgot that and tried to equal yesterday’s effort if not the miles. I found that my condition is not here yet to handle this. I suffered a bonk around the 21 mile point so I had to slow down and motor home. My Mercier road bike is riding nice. I did see several other riders today but they were headed in the opposite direction. Weather was 80 degrees when I got back home with some cloud cover and a slight WNW wind.
Okay ride to Grapevine…then it began to rain
from Life On A Baron
60 degrees at the start, it was supposed to rain much later in the evening so I tried to get a Grapevine/DFW Airport ride in, it started sprinkling going across Grapevine Dam which by itself didn’t bother me but the addition of a west wind didn’t make it fun at all. …

Eight or ten years ago the old town of Castell, sitting on the south bank of the Llano River about 18 miles west of the Llano town square was essentially a ghost town. Today it still has some of the flavor of a ghost town but has become home to a number of Bed and Breakfasts and the old Castell General Store has reopened, mostly…

What better formula to make today a great riding day. Even with the winds the ride was great. Just as they can be a headwind they also turn into a tailwind sometime. Today was one of the longest rides for the area around where I live. Today’s ride was mostly in Montgomery County to the north and west of Kingwood. I did not see any other riders today but I did get to pass out a Texbiker.net business card to a man in New Caney when I stopped to re-fill my water bottle. He said he was thinking about starting to ride a bike and I told him that Texbiker.net could help him get started.
Riding home I realized that I know riders’ names in the European peloton but I do not know players’ names on the Houston Astros or the Houston Texans. We have been watching the Paris-Nice and Tirreno-Adriatio stages races in France and Italy, respectively. The names of the riders are familiar.
