About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

First Ride with DST Is Here

Texbiker.net Posted on March 14, 2010 by Rick AnkrumMarch 14, 2010

Last weekend I said I as going to follow Dr. Mirkin’s recommendation to ride easy after a hard ride. Well, I forgot that and tried to equal yesterday’s effort if not the miles. I found that my condition is not here yet to handle this. I suffered a bonk around the 21 mile point so I had to slow down and motor home. My Mercier road bike is riding nice. I did see several other riders today but they were headed in the opposite direction. Weather was 80 degrees when I got back home with some cloud cover and a slight WNW wind.

Today’s ride statistics:

  • miles = 25.74
  • average speed = 15.0 mph
  • ride time = 1:42:43
  • average pace 3:59 min/mile
  • max speed = 19.5 mph
  • average cadence = 80.4 rpm
  • max cadence = 110 rpm
  • climb = 162 ft., descending = 142 ft.
  • ytd mils = 691.41

Okay ride to Grapevine…then it began to rain
from Life On A Baron
60 degrees at the start, it was supposed to rain much later in the evening so I tried to get a Grapevine/DFW Airport ride in, it started sprinkling going across Grapevine Dam which by itself didn’t bother me but the addition of a west wind didn’t make it fun at all. …

Barbie And Her Bike: Training Ride 3-13-10
by Barbara Rojas
Clear blue skies, not too hot or too cold, and no winds. I felt like I was on top of Texas, probably literally with the elevation heights we climbed. The first 7 miles were a little slow as R was getting his cycling legs back. …

Cycling  – Ride Report: Llano, TX to Castell, TX and Back « Don …
by donbynum
A few days ago, Peggy and I took the truck out and scouted an area in western Llano County for additional great rides.  WOW!  We hit pay-dirt!

Eight or ten years ago the old town of Castell, sitting on the south bank of the Llano River about 18 miles west of the Llano town square was essentially a ghost town.  Today it still has some of the flavor of a ghost town but has become home to a number of Bed and Breakfasts and the old Castell General Store has reopened, mostly…

March Winds, Clear Skies, 73 Degrees = Great Bike Ride Today

Texbiker.net Posted on March 13, 2010 by Rick AnkrumMarch 14, 2010

What better formula to make today a great riding day. Even with the winds the ride was great. Just as they can be a headwind they also turn into a tailwind sometime. Today was one of the longest rides for the area around where I live. Today’s ride was mostly in Montgomery County to the north and west of Kingwood. I did not see any other riders today but I did get to pass out a Texbiker.net business card to a man in New Caney when I stopped to re-fill my water bottle. He said he was thinking about starting to ride a bike and I told him that Texbiker.net could help him get started.

Riding home I realized that I know riders’ names in the European peloton but I do not know players’ names on the Houston Astros or the Houston Texans. We have been watching the Paris-Nice and Tirreno-Adriatio stages races in France and Italy, respectively. The names of the riders are familiar.

Today’s ride statistics:

  • miles = 45.97
  • ride time = 3:06:57
  • average pace = 4.04 min/mile
  • average speed = 14.8
  • max speed = 21.4 mph
  • average cadence = 79.6 rpm
  • max cadence = 109 rpm
  • climb = 369 ft., descend = 424 ft.
  • ytd miles = 665.67
