About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Hill Country Commuter: The Lone Star Tour: a proposal
by BLondon
I want more U.S. racing. Maybe it would bring in some more bicycle-centric tourism. Maybe it would increase the bicycle friendliness of our drivers. Maybe it would inspire a more health-conscious populous. No offense to my fellow citizens, … There is a big tour in Missouri that also brings in top pros. I propose a Texas bike race full of top professional athletes: The Lone Star Tour. Since Texas is practically its own country anyway, I think it is appropriate. …

Lessons from the race  fail | Mellow Velo
by KFullerF4
As it turns out, I’m not the first person to ever quit a bicycle race. While this is somewhat of a relief, my performance last weekend (read more here) begs the question: What are my cycling goals, anyway? … Camp Verde, Texas. I’m not sure when I will toe the line next; it may not happen until the next criterium season. I’m not giving up, I just might finally be figuring out where I am, what my abilities are and the kind of riding I need to do to stay interested, …

The Austin Chronicles: Bike Hugging
by Cára
I felt like it was my own personal ‘Welcome to Austin Bike Tour’. We started at the Austin Convention Center, went over to Palmer Park, where a marching band was waiting for us. We looped out of the park and headed to the East side of town. … We went through a few cool parks and even the Texas State Cemetery. I know that last part sounds weird, but I am not weirded out by cemeteries. There were so many different sorts of people there. Everyone from Hippies to Hipsters. …

Cool Bike Ride (Literally)

Texbiker.net Posted on March 17, 2010 by Rick AnkrumMarch 17, 2010

My desire for riding tonight got the best of me. I am thinking spring is here and the warm weather to go with it. I dressed a little lighter than I should have so I was cooler than I prefer when I was riding. I could really tell the difference when I was in the shade, which was most of the time. The temperature was 66 degrees when I got back and the wind was N at 10 mph. Slight clouds covered the sun as it went to the western horizon. Warmer dress will be in order tomorrow night.

The Mercier Serpens Ltd 2.0 ride statistics for tonight: (updated-SportTracks needed a setting changed)

  • miles = 20.03
  • riding time = 1:21:36
  • average pace = 4:05 min/mile
  • average speed = 14.7 mph
  • average cadence = 77.9 rpm
  • max cadence = 114 rpm
  • climb = 213 ft, descend = 134 ft.
  • month to date miles = 243.08
  • ytd miles = 729.65

Saturday, May 01, 2010
Online Registration Closes Thursday, April 29, 2010 at 11:45 PM ET
Flyer is at:  http://www.southernelite.org/Coldspring/ColdspringRoad2008.pdf

The first riders will roll out of the Coldspring High School parking lot at 8am and the last riders will leave around 11:30

Fees: $30 for seniors and $15 for juniors 15 and up and $10 for juniors 10-14, there will be a $10 late fee for seniors registering the day of the race. No late charges for juniors

Registration is at the Coldspring HS on 150. About 2 miles N of the intersection of HWY 2025 and 150. The HS is on the right side of the street.

This race features a 16 mile loop which riders get to do multiple times during the race. As you can see from the race profile three or so miles of the loop is quite hilly and will help to separate the fields into those ready for the hills and those who need more training. the finish line is at the top of a hill and favors the climbers rather than sprinters.

Texas  Tech Race Weekend — Texas A&M Cycling Team
from http://amct.tamu.edu
We actually had  a sizeable field compared to years past–5 Aggies (me, Shane, Cody, Herc, and Tom), t.u. had a few riders, and MSU had once again stacked the field.  I wasn’t so concerned with their cat 3 riders as I was the 4 cat 1’s.  Jason and Todd were carryovers for last year, whereas Alexi is a recent addition, as was Josh Carter…husband of the MSU coach.  I was in a playful mood, so at the start line…

Magnolia Miles still in need of volunteers
By CHRISTINA HAYDEN
Updated: 03.11.10
B-geo Magnolia Miles is around the corner and there is still a large need for additional volunteers.

Magnolia Miles is a bike ride to be held on March 20.

The main need for this event is for volunteers the day of the ride.

Heidi Teichgraeber, B-geo Magnolia Miles Ride Director said the main reason why people volunteer for this particular event is because they want the Magnolia community to be showcased since a lot of these riders come from all over Houston. …
