About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Through Generous Donations Ethan from Lindale is Creating His BMX Track

Billy Jenkins | knue.com

It was less than one week ago that we told you about the hard working 7-year-old Ethan out of Lindale who was working to create a BMX track a little bit closer to his house. This kid loves to ride his bike, and so does his little brother, but they like to ride everyday and the closest track to their house was too far away to ride each day. But after working hard and the very generous people caught wind about the project, the generosity of East Texas was quickly on display.

The most impressive part to this whole story to me was the fact that Ethan wanted something and didn’t beg his parents to make it happen, he rolled up his sleeves and wanted to sell lemonade and chocolate bars until he created the …

CEDAR PARK, Texas (KXAN) — A 28-year-old man who died after a crash involving a bicycle and a vehicle Monday has been identified by Cedar Park police.

Police responded to the crash around 11:50 a.m. Monday at the intersection of South Bell Boulevard and East Little Elm.

The Cedar Park Traffic Division is investigating, police said.

Cyclist Killed – South Bell Crossing to Twin Creeks YMCA

By throet | austinmountainbiking.com

Really unfortunate incident that occurred yesterday very close to home. My wife had driven through that intersection after the cyclist was struck and saw that he was still laying on the ground with EMS attending to him. Not sure how the actual impact occurred, but for those of us living west of the YMCA, this is the crossing used to get over to the Brushy Creek trails. I’ve seen many car accidents at that intersection as well, some with cars getting hurled into the area where pedestrians could be waiting to cross.

The first phase of Lakeline Park is supposed include a pedestrian bridge crossing S. Bell; so I’ll be really glad to see that completed. …

New Cleats, Blue Sky, And Local Legend

Texbiker.net Posted on October 5, 2021 by Rick AnkrumOctober 5, 2021

Yesterday I decided to turn my Sidi shoes over and check the cleats. They were chewed up so before today’s bike ride I replaced them. I think walking after last Thursday’s flat tire put them over the edge.

It didn’t take long to scuff the one cleat on my right shoe, the foot I put down when I stop.

With the new cleats installed the bike ride began at 10:02 AM. I rode my Canyon Endurace bike. Limited on time I chose a shorter route to the south and east, “Atascocita – Walden – E. Lake Houston Parkway” biking 30.31 miles. I finished at 12:18 PM after enjoying the blue sky and a little cooler temperature.

Video: ‘I was left for dead’: Bicyclist recovering after being hit by pickup truck in Fort Bend County

Sabirah Rayford | www.click2houston.com

FORT BEND COUNTY – A west Houston bicyclist said he’s lucky to be alive after he was hit by a pickup truck and allegedly left for dead on Thursday.

The incident happened on FM 1489 near Hunt and Vernon Frost Road in Fort Bend County around 4:30 p.m.

Ankur Wadhwa said the sounds of nature and the countryside views are what brought him to the area 20 times a month for the past 12 years.

“To get away from everything and enjoy the country and to enjoy nature,” he said.

On Thursday, he said his …

The 2021 Track Racing Season is coming to an end, RoY’s are decided, but you still have one more chance for glory! Our Season Finale and Madison Championships are on October 15th and Registration is open. Even if you are not racing please come down to watch this spectacle and enjoy some food and free beer courtesy of Karbach!

Upcoming Events

FNR – RoY Finals

Fri 1st October

Final FNR Ranking

Robert Bodamer (M40+) and Zaira Estrada (W4) were both confirmed as deserving RoY winner before racing started based on who registered meaning neither could be overtaken on the night.

Men’s Cat 4

3 riders had a chance on the night, Christian Bech looked good for most of the Scratch race until his daring breakaway was caught right at the end by Robin Carrera who put himself in pole position however it was Sebastian Bech who came back to win the final 2 races and in doing so took the omnium and the RoY!

Elite Men

The 3 RoY contenders were all caught watching each other in race 1 as Darby Deming and Zach Ross took as lap and finish in 1st and 2nd respectively. Race 2 saw the RoY leader Cason Hewgley on the wrong end of some bad luck resulting in him crashing out of the race and ultimately contention for the RoY prize. John Martin was the rider to capitalize winning the elimination. Said Assali fought hard in the points race with the RoY decided in the final sprint, while Said won the final points John was able to hold off Stuart Gardner to pick up the 4 points he needed to edge Said’s out by 32 to 31. This meant Said only got 7 omnium points instead of the 10 for winning and therefore finished 3rd on the night 2 points behind Darby. This all meant that John takes over his wife, Tracy’s, #1 bib for 2022!

Juniors

Elijah swept the night and came out victorious again despite being pushed hard by Gabi, Tegan and Isaiah who all picked up a 2nd places. Tegan missing out in the final race by only 1 point after leading into the final sprint! Ryan and Josh both put on relentless fireworks with some closely fought races between each other!

The Attack Of The 20 Foot Weeds On Wichita Falls Circle Trail

Durango Texas | durangotexas.blogspot.com

Yesterday I biked the Wichita Bluff Nature Area. During that bike ride I saw tall weeds like you see above, but did not feel like stopping to photo document them. I wasn’t in the mood to do such. Even when a snake slithered across my path I did not feel like stopping to photo document it.

Today my bike took me on the Circle Trail, north of Hamilton Park, where eventually the trail once again runs alongside Holliday Creek. As the trail nears Holliday Creek a forest of those same type weeds I saw yesterday almost takes over the trail.

And today I did feel like …

Rain Departed, No Need To Cloud Watch, Just Blue Sky Looking

Texbiker.net Posted on October 4, 2021 by Rick AnkrumOctober 4, 2021

This week is off to a better start than last week. The rain clouds departed, the humidity is lower and so is the dew point. All of these make for very nice biking weather, a pleasure to be out biking. I didn’t get out the door very early with wheels down at 11:01 AM. Riding north into a headwind to SH 242 was not easy but making the u-turn at SH 242 switched to a nice tailwind all the way back to Kingwood for the 1:58 PM finish. The route was “Kingwood – SH 242 – Kingwood” and I biked 37.00 miles putting one day ahead of the pace to reach to my 625 mile goal. I made up for the rain out last Friday. I need to average 20.26 miles per day to reach the goal and I am averaging 24.84 miles. So far in 2021 I biked this route 8 times, less than 1 time per month.

10-4-2021 YTD Bike Rides Summary Today's Route

The added GoPro Media Mod I used to video today’s bike ride did better on the audio. This makes the GoPro bulkier but it still fit in my jersey pocket. I used a shoestring as a lanyard to hold onto the camera when it wasn’t in the jersey pocket. I wish there was something for the handlebar that holds the camera until I need it; a Velcro patch with extra grip, maybe.

Big change in the weather. No need to watch the clouds for approaching rain. with the lower humidity and dew point I didn’t sweat so much despite the temperature being in the 80’s. The wind strengthened while I rode. I didn’t realize the gusts were so strong. Maybe that’s why the tailwind helped. Weather summary: start 80 (67% humidity, 68 dew point), partly cloudy, wind NE 4 mph; finish 85 (45% humidity, 62 dew point), partly cloudy, wind N 13 mph gusts 21 mph.

The map shows the route going north to SH 242 into the headwind. The u-turn at SH 242 changed to a tailwind. Construction at SH 242 seems to moving at a snail’s pace. I couldn’t see much difference from my last ride on August 30th.
