About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Great Day To Bike To FM 2100, Fellow Bikers, 200+ Mile Week

Texbiker.net Posted on August 14, 2021 by Rick AnkrumAugust 14, 2021

Great day for a bike ride. I rolled away at 7:48 AM, my earliest start of the week, on my Canyon Endurace bike. I changed the route from what I said in the video to “Atascocita – FM 2100 – Walden” when I got to FM 2100. I returned to FM 1960 the same way skipping Huffman. I finished at 10:25 AM after riding 32.93 miles, making it a 219.11 mile week. This was the 15th time riding this route. I wasn’t the only biker out today, most of them are in the video. August is up to 474.1 miles towards my 800 mile goal.

The early start yielded a lower temperature but high humidity making for a muggy ride. Wind was light helping my legs not work against a headwind. Weather conditions: start 76 (99% humidity, 75.9 dew point), partly cloudy, wind N 5 mph; finish 88 (64% humidity, 74.4 dew point), partly cloudy, wind variable 4 mph.

A number of vehicles were parked at the church on Fairlake Lane meaning more bikers I didn’t see were out. On the return pass the church a couple of them had left. Those probably were some of the bikers I passed on the way to FM 2100. Before leaving Kingwood I saw 5 or 6 people riding mountain bikes but I didn’t catch them in the video.

Early Start Again, North to Caney Creek And Back to Kingwood

Texbiker.net Posted on August 13, 2021 by Rick AnkrumAugust 13, 2021

Second day in a row with a start time before 9 AM at 8:54 AM. The secret is to not watch bike racing before starting my bike ride. I watch them when i get back home. Today I rode north over Caney Creek and then back to the south through Valley Ranch, Oakhurst, Kings Manor, and into Kingwood. I call this route “Kingwood – FM1485 – Kingwood”. I biked 31.83 miles, about the average for this route. This is a popular route for me with 12 rides so far in 2021. The week now totals 186.19 miles leaving 14 miles for a 200+ mile week. I rode my Lynskey R300 bike which is up 5,038 miles on the odometer. 441.17 miles so far in August, 55% of the way to my 800 mile goal.

Below is a comparison of YTD miles from 2011 through 2021. Currently 2021 leads 2020 by 14 miles and all other years by much bigger differences as show by the red numbers on the right.

With the early start the sky was not cloudy but as the ride progressed clouds gathered with some looking laden with some rain. I finished at 11:32 AM without any rain falling. I could’ve finished sooner but I stopped to talk to a Tachus employee about the status of running fiber optic internet cable on my street. Weather conditions: start 86 (77% humidity, 77.9 dew point), partly cloudy, wind SE 4 mph; finish 86 (71% humidity, 75.6 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind variable 4 mph. Not much wind which is a blessing but maybe a few more mph would helped with the cooling as I rode.

I am enjoying the smooth silent ride on the Lynskey R300 since I installed the the Robert Axle Project Lightning through axles.
