After church I started today’s bike ride at 1:29 PM biking the Kingwood Trails Tour de Pools. One of the features of the Kingwood greenbelts connects parks and pools without riding on streets. I rode by 8 different village pools on the Tour de Pools covering 17.46 miles. At River Grove Park I biked on the new to me greenway from last week but this time I followed the sharrows on the streets and found even more greenway segments all the way to Forest Cove Drive where the sharrows disappeared.
With today’s miles I finished the week with 236.75 miles, about 3 miles more than last week’s total. Better yet, I passed my 800 mile goal for July. I biked 24 out of 25 days so far, only missing July 9th due to rain all day.
7-25-2021 July Bike Rides Summary
Hot describes the weather. Starting late was a good reason to ride the greenbelt trails in some shade. I finished the bike ride at 3:08 PM. Weather summary for the ride: start 90 (58% humidity, 72.8 dew point), partly cloudy, wind variable 4 mph; finish 93 (50% humidity, 71.2 dew point), partly cloudy, wind S 5 mph. Not much wind which probably didn’t matter with all of the trees. Not many people out on the trails with the heat and air quality alert. The heat looks to be around for several days.
Lee Wheeler celebrated his birthday a few days early this year. And he wheely went out of his way to do so.
Wheeler, who lives at Fair Oaks Ranch, a far north suburb of San Antonio, was at Buffalo Gap on Saturday morning — a trip of about 225 miles — to ride in the Tour de Gap bicycle event.
First of all, I am blessed beyond belief to be riding a bike again after being hit by a car. From intensive care, to inpatient rehabilitation to actually being on a bike again, Jeff has NEVER stopped believing in me nor left my side. Today’s ride was very hard, and toward the end, I bonked and started cramping. Jeff was strong as ever, but would always wait for me. “Sappy†or not, I am so glad to have such a good friend like Jeff. Of course I must thank my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for another safe ride.ðŸ™
Just about DIALED (other than being way overgeared for these climbs…)! I’m now considering the possibility of just keeping this thing set up singlespeed for longer…
It’s happening. I’m noticing a significant uptick of high end 2020/2021 bikes being listed on CL and FB. Guess the COVID bikers decided this sport wasn’t for them. Time to get that new bike you wanted at a steep discount!
WICHITA FALLS (KFDX/KJTL) — Bike Wichita Falls hosted their second annual Ride and Splash event Saturday where people of all ages were encouraged to bring out their wheels for a few hours of fun, while also educating children and parents on the safety of bike riding.
Children and adults alike enjoy bike riding in the warm summer months, but co-chair of local cycling group Bike Wichita Falls Becky Raeke wants riders to take some safety tips into consideration before hopping on their wheels.

Access to trails means access to opportunities, and greenspace is good for our communities and environment. Expanding our trail systems will connect neighborhoods to different parks and parts of the county. We are excited to see the network grow. 🚲ðŸªðŸŒ³https://t.co/cMv1HLLGPN
Ride today took us past a house we owned 1982–1993. I planted that pecan tree. Can’t see the HUGE backyard red oak. One Christmas our then 3 yr old son (now 40- has his own bowling shoes) used a plastic toy handsaw to cut it down. I let it sprout & it is beautiful today. #Dallaspic.twitter.com/KxF1EN4Bqc

I beat last Saturday’s start time by 1 minute with my Canyon Endurace’s wheels rolling at 7:57 AM. I rode my usual Saturday route going south and east to FM 2100 and back finishing at 10:20 AM. This week I rode a couple of miles longer thanks to changing the streets at the beginning through Woodridge Forest. I needed 13 miles to hit 200 for the week and biking 32.21 miles today put the week at 219.29 miles. Also I am within 6 miles of reaching my 800 mile goal for July at 794.67 miles. This marked the 15th time biking this route in 2021. Probably one of my most frequently used routes.

I haven’t decided if I will bike tomorrow (Sunday). So far I biked 23 out of 24 days in July.
7-24-2021 YTD Bike Rides Summary Today’s Route
Today’s bike ride wasn’t the longest using this route name but was above the average. As you can see from the list all of the rides have been on my Canyon Endurace bike.
Weather conditions: start 77 (99% humidity, 76.7 dew point), a few clouds, wind SW 5 mph; finish 88 (69% humidity, 76.5 dew point), a few clouds, wind S 8 mph. The humidity and dew point at the start made for a muggy ride. It felt cool as long as I moved but stopping produced a flow of sweat falling to the pavement. The cold water in my CamelBak helped.
I’m glad I didn’t go north on FM 2100 because I would’ve missed several other bikers.
The reason I start early on Saturday is to see other bikers. I got some of them on the video today but I saw several on the way back to Kingwood after I turned the Drift Ghost XL camera off. The number of bikers is not as many as some other times. Another reason is to finish the ride before the hottest time of the day. I think my video editing improved a little this week as I aligned the Bolt computer screenshot closer to the Drift camera timeline.
Average speed got up to 14.3 mph thanks to a light breeze and good legs. With all of the starts and stops getting out of Kingwood I have to overcome the low average speed there but today I kept a strong pace in Kingwood so I didn’t have to overcome such a big difference to get the average speed above 14 mph. Strava said today’s bike ride was consistent with my usual efforts.
From Strava I learned, “You just claimed the title of Local Legend on Kings View U. Your 37 efforts mean that you’ve completed the most efforts on this segment over the past 90 days.” As the number says I ride this segment several times a week when I go south out of Kingwood. It avoids traffic on W. Lake Houston Parkway.
If you think you know everything there is to know about riding a bike, and you haven’t tried mountain-biking, get ready for an education!
SAN ANTONIO — I have ridden thousands of miles on a bicycle and thought I knew just about everything was was to know about riding. Then I tried mountain-biking. Boy, did I get an education!
I have always ridden road bikes, but always wanted to try mountain-biking. I had no idea how different and just how tough it is.
With a road bike, it is a nice smooth ride where you’re only really challenged when you come to a significant hill.

MARSHALL — In the summer of 1981, a 28-year old Steve Myhrberg of Glens Falls, New York set out on a cross-country bicycle trip with his wife Pat in celebration of their eight-year anniversary. The couple went on to make it through the first leg of the tour, which included a stop in Marshall to visit Steve’s brother Phil, but the pair ended up falling just short of their ultimate goal.
Now, 40 years later, the two are back on the road and eager to finish what they started.

The Chain Link bike technician Erik Rodriguez and owner Seana Rosseau work on one of several bike repairs in the shop. Repairs have been a key part of business as supplies of new bikes have dried up.
With more people buying bikes during the pandemic to get some fresh air, shops everywhere are facing bike and parts shortages while repairs ramp up.
Bike sales rose 78% during the pandemic, according to NPD Group, a market-research firm.
That climb in demand has left shops with backorders on assembled bikes and parts that are expected to last into the fall and perhaps even to next year.
