About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Lubbock awarded grant to improve mountain bike trails

Matt Dotray | www.lubbockonline.com

The winding mountain bike trails through some of the most scenic areas Lubbock has to offer will get some enhancements in the near future.

Colby Van Gundy, Lubbock’s director of parks and recreation, says the city has been awarded a grant from Texas Parks & Wildlife to make improvements to the Dunbar Lake Mountain Bike Trails.

Improvements will include the construction of a trailhead kiosk, trail markers, water station and bike racks along the already existing trail.

Lubbock’s mountain bike trails are …

Saturday Lucy Park Bike Ride Finds Wichita Falls Back Falling Water

Durango Texas | durangotexas.blogspot.com

My mechanized motion device took me and my bike back to Lucy Park on this next to last Saturday of the 2021 version of June.

My bike and I had a mighty fine, long ride. There was only one jarring moment.

That being my first snake encounter in quite some time. The encounter happened in the backwoods zone of Lucy Park, where the grass is tall and the trees jungle-like. I did not stop to take a picture, instead I reversed course and rolled away. It was a big snake. I only saw about four feet of its tail end. The head end was in the …

BPD hits streets with bike patrol

Officers Kenneth Hockless and Macla Aguilera are two of Baytown’s newly certified bicycle patrol officers. The program is new to Baytown police. (Submitted by Baytown Police Department) People attending Juneteenth and Fourth of July events this year will see an unfamiliar sight: Baytown police officer on bicycle patrol.

“The Crime Prevention Unit invested in a handful of police mountain bikes and we recently attended [training] and became certified to ride them,” Assistant Chief Eric Freed said.

While riding a bike might seem like the kind of skill that comes naturally, the training from the International Police Mountain Bike Association was demanding, Freed said, covering issues from fitness to nutrition to …

Early Start, Bikers Up, 200+ Mile Week, New Smart Watch

Texbiker.net Posted on June 19, 2021 by Rick AnkrumJune 19, 2021

I managed to start today’s bike ride at 8:32 AM. Before it got hotter and hopefully early enough to see some other bikers. Last Saturday I biked in Mesquite. This week I am back to riding my “Atascocita – FM 2100 – Walden” route on my Canyon Endurace bike. I finished at 11:03 AM. Sometimes I don’t start biking that early.

A summary of my bike rides on this route in 2021. 10 times and today was the earliest start time and most distance, but not by much.

6-19-2021 YTD Bike Rides Summary Today’s Route

I always enjoy seeing other bikers out and today I saw many. I missed some too. either they were hidden by cars or I didn’t spot them early enough to record on my GoPro. I need to improve my quick draw move.

Weather for the bike ride: start 82 (79% humidity, 74.4 dew point), a few clouds, wind calm; finish 89 (63% humidity, 74.7 dew point), a few clouds, wind NE 4 mph. The humidity was high enough for my body to produce lots of sweat. Whenever I stopped a steady stream of drops hit my bike or the pavement.

I reached 200+ miles for the week. That’s 4 weeks in a row. June mileage is up to 629.53, getting closer to my 800 mile goal. 2021 versus 2020 YD miles difference stands at 140 behind 2020. Hopefully not biking tomorrow won’t increase that by too much. Last June I rode 902.84 miles. I averaged 30.09 miles per day in 2020. This year I am averaging 33.13 miles per day.

Wearing my new Samsung Galaxy Active 2 smart watch during the bike ride. I switched my phone to use Samsung’s Message app and a couple popped up on the watch as well as emails from the Samsung Email app too.
