About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Westchase improvements ease way for bikes, pedestrians and cars

Katherine Feser | www.houstonchronicle.com

A series of independent and diverse improvements aimed at easing travel for pedestrians, cyclists and drivers is making getting around Westchase much easier.

Just outside Beltway 8 at the northern end of the Westchase District, new sidewalks and dedicated bike lanes are part of the recently reconstructed Deerwood Road, which connects riders to trails at Terry Hershey Park along Buffalo Bayou.

South of Briar Forest, new 8-foot-wide sidewalks along CityWest Boulevard make it …

Herbert Standley Webb 1971 – 2021

www.legacy.com

Herbert Standley "Stan" Webb, Jr., of Cleveland, Texas, passed Saturday, June 5, 2021, at Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital. He was born on May 31, 1971, to Maxine Ezell and Herbert Stanley Webb of Houston, Texas.

A lifelong musician, Stan’s passion for music started with the violin in an after-school strings program in 1981. He continued to play the violin during his school years into college at Sam Houston State University, and afterward with the Conroe Symphony Orchestra. Along with his musical talents, Stan had a lifelong devotion to dancing and singing. His knowledge and skills in technology served him well in his career in the corporate world and with his consulting company while feeding his interests in all things video gaming that started in his childhood. Stan’s enthusiasm for bicycling began in 1990 with his very first BP MS150 ride from Houston to Austin; as an active member of the local bicycling community, he completed more than 50 Bike MS rides. carolbull | texasnewstoday.com

On Monday, the Collin County Sheriff’s Office began investigating the possibility of drowning a bicycle that hit the side of the bridge and fell into the lake.

Rescue teams found the body of a cyclist on Lake Rabon early Tuesday.

The Collin County Sheriff’s Office said a representative was dispatched to 9300 FM2862 in Anna City to investigate the possibility of drowning at 5:30 pm on Monday, June 21st.

According to the sheriff’s office, witnesses reported seeing a bike ride when it hit the side of the bridge and crossed the railing into Lake Rabon, but witnesses checked the area. But I had never seen the bike resurface from the water below.

Alkek Velodrome Weekly Update

Stuart Gardner | www.alkekvelodrome.com

Track Racing We had a stellar Atomic TT, results are here! Some standout moments for me were the seeing new riders out doing their first races, the track records broken (Jen 500m Elite, Andy 500m Elite, Roberto Kilo 35+). Andy beat Koh’s 2019 record, Jen to Gill’s 1997 record and Roberto to the record of multiple masters world champion and Olympic gold medalist Al Whaley!

Seeing so many juniors out was great, Fury and Selectri we strongly represented along with many of our WK1 YCL graduates including 7 year old Ryan Kegel! This is a testament to the amazing work done by Carl, Katie, Austin, Sebastian and the rest of the coaching team.

Our next races are as follows: FNR – June 25th 7pm (Snowball, Miss n Out, Points) MNS – June 28th 7pm (The moto is back so Keirin’s are go!) Atomic TT – July 3rd 8am

XCC Short Track MTB We had an great opening night with some hard riding! Frank Musil and Alison Sunderhaft took the two open race wins. Lot’s of fun was had by all and thank you to Karbach for supporting us with the beer!

Liberty County New Asphalt But Chip Seal Loomed At Overpass

Texbiker.net Posted on June 22, 2021 by Rick AnkrumJune 22, 2021

Looking for a route for today’s bike ride I decided to try going east on FM 1960 to see how far into Liberty County I could ride. The route was a little different from my last attempt not going by the May Community Center on the way back to Kingwood today. The route label for today, “Kingwood to FM1960 Railroad Overpass – Back”. Checking my ride log in SportTracks this is the second time this route appears since I started keeping ride GPS data in 2010. I started the ride at 10:29 AM riding my Canyon Endurace CF SLX bike.

I guessed the ride would go 41 to 42 miles but ended up at 40.57 miles. The week now stands at 82.69 miles and June totals 712.22 miles. Getting close to the 800 mile goal. The gap between 2021 and 2020 YTD miles narrowed to 105 miles, a nice drop from yesterday.

During the night it rained as a “cool” front moved through. By the time I started the ride the streets were dry but the humidity was high (correcting what I said in the video). The temperature was lower though. Weather summary: start 80 (87% humidity, 75.6 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind N 7 mph; finish 86 (72% humidity, 76.4 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind NW 5 mph.

No strong headwind to fight on the way back to Kingwood allowing me to average 14.0 mph overall. Not as tired after finishing at 1:35 PM as yesterday.

Tour de Force: Meet racing pros Lauren and Mat Stephens

By Jaime Dunaway-Seale | lakewood.advocatemag.com

Lauren Stephens’ bicycle tire was flat, and she didn’t know how to change it. She took the hand-me-down vehicle to a bike shop, where Mat Stephens pawned the repair off on another employee so he could chat with the cute new customer.

“I had no idea he was flirting with me, but that’s what was happening,” Lauren says.

The two started going on group rides and have been training buddies — and life partners — ever since. After 10 years of marriage, their commitment to cycling is as strong as ever.

Mat ran cross country and swam in high school. He …

Houston Cyclists Embark on the Historic Emancipation Trail Ride from Galveston

After celebrating Juneteenth, for the first time as a federal holiday, nearly 50 cyclists gathered at the historic Reedy AME church in Galveston early Sunday morning. New Kit to Ride In 80% Humidity Kingwood – Splendora – Kingwood

Texbiker.net Posted on June 21, 2021 by Rick AnkrumJune 21, 2021

I read the Space City Weather forecast email this morning and hoped I could get today’s bike ride finished before any rain arrived. A few chores delayed my start until 10:30 AM as I rode away on my Lynskey R300 bike. I chose my “Kingwood – Splendora – Kingwood” route because I only rode it once before in 2021.

6-21-2021 YTD Bike Rides Summary Kingwood-Splendora-Kingwood

Over 2 months ago since the last trip. today’s distance was slight shorter at 42.11 miles and the average speed 1 mph slower, probably because of the headwind from Splendora back to Kingwood. I trail YTD 2020 by 146 miles. Not too bad considering I didn’t ride yesterday, Father’s Day.

It was a new kit bike ride with new shorts and jersey, both from Primal.

  • 6-21-2021 Primal American Flyer Jersey Front
6-21-2021 Primal American Flyer Jersey Front
  • 6-21-2021 Primal American Flyer Jersey Back
6-21-2021 Primal American Flyer Jersey Back
  • 6-21-2021 Primal Obsidian Prisma Shorts
    6-21-2021 Primal Obsidian Prisma Shorts

The aforementioned wind was 10 mph from the south on the way to Splendora and back to Kingwood. The humidity was around 80% making for a muggy ride without much benefit from evaporation to help me stay cool. Weather overall: start 86 (74% humidity, 76.3 dew point), overcast, wind S 10 mph; finish 86 (80% humidity, 78.9 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind S 10 mph. As I write this (4 PM) it is raining outside but I got home at 2:15 PM before it arrived.

Strava told me I am now the local legend on 2 segments.
