About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Conquer the Coast Goes Virtual in 2020

By Jane Kathleen Gregorio | www.101corpuschristi.com

Renowned as one of the most unique bike rides in Texas, Conquer the Coast just got even more unusual. The 2020 event, which raises money for leadership, empowerment, and scholarship programs, has gone virtual. Riders can pick their own routes and complete their chosen milage at their own pace.

The scenic, 66-mile route normally takes cyclists along Corpus Christi Bay, over the Harbor Bridge, across the Corpus Christi Ship Channel on the Port Aransas ferry, along Mustang Island, and onto Ocean Drive. That route is unavailable this …

TerraQuest app helps event directors offer self-timed rides and races

www.bicycleretailer.com

CRESTED BUTTE, Colo. (BRAIN) — Like the Hubtiger app and PeopleForBikes’ Ride Spot app, TerraQuest offers a variety of tools to retailers and other businesses, including the ability to share favorite routes, run consumer challenges and more.

But TerraQuest’s killer feature is the ability to offer riders turn-by-turn audible directions, even on trails and offline. That makes it ideal for event directors looking to offer self-timed rides and races due to COVID-19 cancelations.

The directions are key for riders hoping to navigate a specific mountain bike route without …

BEAUMONT- A Texas appeals court panel issued a split ruling in a suit filed against the city of Beaumont by a man severely injured when the bicycle he was riding struck a water valve street cover.

A lower court determined that Raul Isern could sue the city under the Texas Tort Claims Act (TTCA), which allows limited exemptions from government sovereign immunity protections.

Bailie Myers | www.newschannel10.com

AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) – A local automotive group announced a major donation to an area cancer charity on Monday.

Every year, bikers come together for 24 Hours in the Canyon, a daylong road and mountain bike event in Palo Duro Canyon benefiting the 24 Hours in the Canyon Cancer Survivorship Center.

Due to “Covid-19 concerns,” this year’s event was cancelled. This is the group’s biggest fundraiser, and the funds raised through the event allow the center to provide free resources to cancer survivors during and after treatment.

No Greenway Crowd After Rain

Texbiker.net Posted on August 17, 2020 by Rick AnkrumAugust 17, 2020

After the early morning rain I wasn’t sure if the roads would dry soon enough for me to go biking. But after watching stage 2 of the Tour de Wallonie and checking the weather radar the streets were dry and the rain clouds gone. Getting ready I rolled my Lynskey R300 bike out the door and punched the Bolt start button at 11:08 AM, much later than I planned. Because my biking schedule looked strange the rest of the week I wanted to ride at least 40 miles and chose to ride the Spring Creek Greenway. I ended up biking 42.33 miles, slightly less than my usual due to not going all the way to I-45 but turning around at Dennis Johnston Park. This was the 7th time to ride Spring Creek Greenway in 2020. Those 7 times break down to 5 on my Lynskey R300 and 2 on my Canyon Endurace. Of note, on today’s bike ride my Lynskey R300 odometer rolled to 2012 miles. A summary of the 7 bike rides.

8-17-2020 YTD Bike Rides Summary Today's Route

The greenway traffic wasn’t busy today. I don’t know if the rain, school starting, or Monday had anything to do with that. A few bikers passed going the opposite direction going to Dennis Johnston Park and on the way back to the US59 trailhead. My timing for catching them with the GoPro was off. They would come around a bend in the trail or I would be looking to the side and not press the record button soon enough.

With the cooler weather I rode a good pace on the greenway plus I had a deadline to finish. My legs felt up to the task and Strava recorded 4 new personal records. With all the people riding the greenway numerous segments exist showing up in the ride summary below.

Weather at the start and 2:33 PM finish: start 74 (99% humidity, 74 dew point), overcast, wind calm. Finish 91 (63% humidity, 76.3 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind variable 4 mph. The high humidity at the start turned my arm sleeves into warmers but later as the sun came through the clouds they blocked the sun. With all of the trees it felt cooler longer than I expected.

I stopped at John Pundt Park on the way back for a short rest break to a Clif Bar and took this photo.

8-17-2020 Bike Ride John Pundt Park-1

Normally when I stop here a couple of bikers pass but none today.

My goal for August suffered a little because I took a rest day yesterday but I am getting closer. A recap of where I stand.
