About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Will The Cervelo Break Out Of The Flat Tire Merry Go Round?

Texbiker.net Posted on March 18, 2024 by Rick AnkrumMarch 18, 2024

After watching stage 1 of the Volta a Catalunya from Spain I walked by my Cervelo Caledonia bike resting on the rack. The habit to squeeze the rear tire produced bad news, it was flat. I got the bike down and removed the rear wheel. The Cervelo is having a tough time with the rear tire flat since I ran over a sharp rock several weeks ago. The first minutes of the video recaps the problem and solution, hopefully no more rear tire flats. Some photos of the flat tire saga.

A stiff wind awaited as I got ready to ride. Between the flat tire and wanting it to warm up a couple more degrees I didn’t start the bike ride until 12:57 PM. This week I plan on all bike rides outside to go south and maybe east. Today I chose my Atascocita – Walden – Huffman route to start it off. 68 degrees is not my preferred riding scenario and the wind of 23 mph and 31 mph gusts makes it even less appealing. It was warm enough that I didn’t wear leg warmers but a long sleeve thermal jersey and wind jacket were required. The NE wind direction changed the typical headwind and tailwind places along the route. The sun hiding behind clouds made it feel chilly and the jersey and jacket blunted that most of the time. The hardest sections were riding east over Lake Houston, north on FM2100 to Huffman, and north over the river on W Lake Houston Parkway. I finished at 3:37 PM and getting out of the cool wind felt great.

On Sunday Mornin’ St. Patrick’s Day Sunday

Brent Wells | strava.com

Well, the threat of rain was ever present, and essentially everyone else abandoned the ride. Thank goodness David Patterson said that he would still be willing to go. It was only slightly misting when we started, and at times, it wasn’t raining at all. At other times, especially when we got close to Blanco, the bottom fell out and we got drenched. However, near the end of the ride, we both said that we were glad that we had done it. I had the chance to talk to David a little bit more than usual, so that was nice. He’s also an extremely strong cyclist who has that endearing quality of humility. Of course, as always, I’m thankful to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, for saving me both spiritually and physically enabling me to return to this sport that I love. I thank Him for another safe ride with a great friend without any mechanicals or flats.

Very nice Sunday for some backroads with friends! Lufkin, Texas

Couple sprints thrown in for fun. Wow I don’t know what to do with myself….2 rides back to back with no crippling back spasms. Maybe there’s hope for me yet…

Pedaling Through Uncertainty: Dodging Rain and Reaching Goals

Texbiker.net Posted on March 17, 2024 by Rick AnkrumMarch 17, 2024

Afternoon start for today’s bike ride after getting home from church and a snack. Rolled out on my Lynskey Helix bike at 1;47 PM with a route in mind through Kingwood, over to US59 for short ride north and then back through Brooklyn Trails. I guessed the ride would be 20 miles but it probably would be longer. I was on course but as I rode through Sherwood Trails, north on Woodland Hills Drive light began. I changed the route to not go to US59 and Brooklyn Trails instead heading through North woodland Hills Village and Bear Branch Village back home at 3:45 PM. Real rain never materialized though. I rode 22.86 miles to finish the week for a total of 224.58 miles. Two rides on Zwift and 5 ride on the road. March riding totals 514.24 miles with 444 road miles and the rest on Zwift. My road mile goal is 680 miles, getting closer. I need 236 more road miles.

Gator Ride brightens gray Saturday

By Dave Rogers | baytownsun.com

The skies didn’t exactly clear. The sun didn’t come out from behind the clouds.

But the rain and lightning had cleared out in time for Saturday morning’s start to the 35th annual Gator Ride Gear Up To End Hunger.

The annual tradition that supports healthy activity and benefits Hearts and Hands of Baytown to end hunger in our community featured hundreds of bicycle riders departing from Lee College on rides ranging from 5.6 miles to 63 miles.

For the first time in four years, the Fred Hartman Bridge climb was a feature of two of the longer routes, along with …

Parks Project pulls in upgrade recommendations

thedalharttexan.com

Members of the Dalhart City Council received an update on the Parks Assessment Project at their regular meeting Monday night. Garrett Hubbard, intern with the city’s Parks Department, shared the results of the three programs held so far. The project includes a two-hour program held at each park with an organized activity, snacks and a chance for participants to vote with Monopoly money on their preferences among suggested park improvements specific to each site. …

Still to be assessed are Swimming Pool Park, at 622 E. Texas Boulevard and Lake Center Park, at 2222 FM 281. The Swimming Pool Park activity will be a bicycle rodeo on March 23. Suggested upgrades include pool basketball, balance posts, rubber mulch replacement, new springers and bicycle stands/repair stations. …
