About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Finished Friday’s Aborted Ride. Changed Canyon Endurace Setup.

Texbiker.net Posted on March 11, 2024 by Rick AnkrumMarch 11, 2024

I decided to ride the route I bailed out on last Friday for today’s bike ride. The route goes north to Community Drive, crosses US59, through Valley Ranch, Forest Colony to FM1314, NE on FM1314 to Cumberland Blvd. I make a short ride into Cumberland before heading SE on FM1314 to Old Sorters Road. As I passed Sorters Road I saw construction work on widening Sorters Road south of FM1314. I have not been near the construction area for some time and didn’t realize the progress. I’m not sure how far the widening will go but maybe someday it will be wide enough to ride there. Without the new road it was a two lanes with no shoulder and lots of traffic. I did ride on Sorters Road from West Fork High School to US59 today to reach Hamblen Road and the San Jacinto Bayou Greenway. This route is called Community Drive – Cumberland – Forest Cove and today was the fourth time riding it. AXS.SRAM.com ride report. The ride began at 12:15 PM and finished at 3:06 PM.

To prepare for my bike tour at the end of March and the first week of April I made some changes to my Canyon Endurace CF 7 bike for today’s bike ride. I switched the Ultegra road pedals for Shimano MTB SPD pedals, wore MTB shoes, and used the DT Swiss Endurance LN wheels with 700x40mm tires. I thought the heavier tires might slow me down but this was the fastest of the rides on the route and achieved the Strava 2nd fastest time on Kris Spraggins Memorial Route (2:13). I want to get used to this setup and check for any problems.

I am waiting for warmer weather. It was chilly during the ride for me. The shade and wind were more chilling. Weather: Start 67 degrees, humidity 55%, dew point 50.2, mostly cloudy, wind NE 7 mph; Finish 70 degrees, humidity 49%, dew point 50.4, partly cloudy, wind SE 10 mph gusts 20 mph.

Sunday Morning Coming Down Kendall County, Texas

Brent Wells | strava.com

Got to meet up at edge Falls with just a fantastic group of cyclists. i’m glad that we decided to meet at 1:00p so that I could go to church in the morning. Seth Mitchell was a kind beast as usual, and David George & Brian Christal also helped keep the pace very quick. It’s great to have Dina Christal back with us after she went down in a pretty bad crash a while ago. All things considered, I’m always thankful to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, for saving me both spiritually and physically enabling me to return to this sport that I love. I thank Him for another fantastic and safe ride without any mechanicals or flats

Son of a gun, we’ll have big fun on the bayou. San Jacinto Bayou Greenway, That Is.

Texbiker.net Posted on March 10, 2024 by Rick AnkrumMarch 10, 2024

Started the ride at 2:11 PM after getting home from church, and watching the final stages of the Paris – Nice and Tirreno-Adriatico races. It was cooler than I prefer but with the sun shining (more at the start than the finish) I wanted to get outside. I rode my Lynskey Helix bike on the Kingwood – San Jacinto Bayou Greenway – Oakhurst route. SportTracks says this is the second time biking this route; the other ride was November 5th, 2023. Today’s ride was a little longer at 26.72 miles. I finished the week biking 205.84 miles, one Zwift ride and 6 on the road. For the month I rode 289.66 miles with a goal of 680 road miles; I’m at 268.3 road miles. It was nice to have more daylight when I finished at 4:14 PM.

Weather: Start 66 degrees, humidity 38%, dew point 40.1, partly cloudy, wind calm; Finish 70 degrees, humidity 31%, dew point 37.6, mostly cloudy, wind N 5 mph.
