About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Zwift Rebel Route Litus Fugit With Mistakes

Texbiker.net Posted on November 20, 2023 by Rick AnkrumNovember 20, 2023

Last week in the Zwiftinsider.com email Eric showed the new Zwift Rebel Route Litus Fugit based on the new Southern Coast in Watopia. Since then I waited on an opportunity to ride it. Today was the day. The weather outside was warm (78) but random light rain moved through several times. I wrote down the turn by turn information for the route, got dressed and started the ride.

The turns starting from The Big Ring route: (the video shows the turns along with several mistakes I made.)

  • Left to Southern Coast
  • Right to Southern Coast
  • Right to Mayan Loop
  • Left to Mayan Bridge
  • Left to Mayan Loop
  • Straight (Left) to Jungle Loop
  • Right to Southern Coast
  • Right to Desert Flats
  • Straight (Right) to Desert Turnaround

The route distance: 37.9 miles with 882 feet elevation gain. I rode 32.3 miles with 925 feet elevation gain. I did achieve a Strava 3rd fastest time on Going Coastal (35:51).

I wasn’t sure about riding the full route which I think would be my longest Zwift ride. The climbing wasn’t too much. I’ve climbed much more than that in Zwift. Turn by turn instructions don’t include all of the turns that are on the route which is where I made several mistakes. When I saw it was a mistake I made a u-turn to get back on course. I think all of those are in the video. Most of the mistakes were on the Jungle Loop when turns came up to leave the Jungle Loop and I took them thinking they were right. If the turn doesn’t have the name and direction don’t take it. I stopped the ride on the way back before I reached the Desert Flats right turn. The maps below show the full route from VeloViewer.com and what I actually rode.

Comparing the maps my problems began around mile 18. The loop I rode is several miles longer than the Veloviewer.com route. I enlarged the problem sections in the maps below. I rode miles 19 through 24 off the route. I don’t remember the turn that got me in trouble., maybe it shows up in the video.

Not a fast ride, but a fun one. She’s always getting better. Especially for not being on a trail in a couple months!

Squabble Creek Trail in Rockwell. Two days in a row!

Best thanksgiving break ever! Heck yeah it is! I wish I had more time off! Another great ride for Mikayla. So happy with how she’s doing.

Lake Georgetown The Dragon 26 Mile 2-Day Recon Hogg Segments East & West on a CO-OP DRT 1.1

Just Me MTB | www.youtube.com

A bit of a long video but fairly good coverage and a little archaeology thrown in. These are the chunkiest trails so far on the 26 mile, I expect similar from Cedar Breaks to Sawyer, my next and last segment for the full Lake Georgetown tour. I wonder if I had a better experience if on a full suspension cause it was rough on this little hardtail, but with exception of the most chunkiest I did manage to plow through most of it. Some new tech progression was made and I completed the mission so, a good day.

Reached November’s Goal Biking Kingwood’s Streets And Trails

Texbiker.net Posted on November 19, 2023 by Rick AnkrumNovember 19, 2023

A delayed start on the bike ride because I watched the UCI world Cup cyclocross race from Troyes France after getting home from church. Once that was over I got ready to ride. The ride followed Kingwood streets and trails with me aboard the Lynskey Helix bike. The purpose was to ride at least 21 miles to reach my 360 road mile goal for November. The last 2 years I didn’t reach my goal and I didn’t want to repeat that this year. To be fair the missed goals resulted from traveling for Thanksgiving. Mission accomplished today as I biked 21.83 miles. The later started allowed the temperature to go up a couple of degrees but it felt chilly in the shade until I warmed up. The began at 2:04 PM and I finished at 3:47 PM. The sun was starting to move down below the taller trees and the SE wind increased to 14 mph from 10 mph at the start. I wore a long sleeve jersey under a short sleeve one to offset the wind chill. It worked mostly. Overall weather: Start 72 degrees, humidity 68%, dew point 60.5, mostly cloudy, wind SE 10 mph; Finish 71 degrees, humidity 72%, mostly cloudy, wind SE 14 mph gusts 16 mph.

Council Updated on Active Transportation Plan; City to Strive for “Silver” Bicycle Friendly Designation

richardsontoday.com

Transportation and Mobility staff gave an update to the City Council Monday regarding implementation of the City’s Active Transportation Plan (ATP), adopted in February, including current and future mobility projects that align with the City’s “Bicycle Friendly” designation. Richardson has been a Bronze-level Bicycle Friendly Community since 2015 and was the first community in North Texas to receive the recognition. The award is given out by the League of American Bicyclists to communities making bicycling “a real transportation and recreation option for all people.” City staff plan to renew the Bicycle Friendly Community designation in 2024 with a goal to achieve Silver-level status.

Highlights of Monday’s presentation include: …

To celebrate the grand opening of the Northaven Trail Bridge, David Morgan led the “Northaven Bridge / Tour Dallas ADHOC Ride”. David set a cap at 14 riders and 14 riders registered. It was a great day for an urban ride. The ride started at the intersection of Arapaho and Hillcrest in Richardson. The route was approximately 44 miles and took us south with a counterclockwise loop through downtown Dallas. Thank you, David, for leading a great ride!

I-Team: Cyclist’s encounter leads to fourth dog being deemed dangerous at local residence

by Jordan Elder | news4sanantonio.com

SAN ANTONIO – In October, the I-Team helped a local woman get answers after she was chased by a dog while on her bicycle.

Now, we’ve confirmed that the dog involved in that incident has been deemed dangerous by the City of San Antonio.

Ione McGinty tells us she was out for her nightly bike ride when a dog ran from a garage and started chasing her, biting at her tires. …

Dallas Texas’ Rule-of-Three, Rudolph’s Revenge the hardest MTB race in North Texas

DFW Series Racing – Shawn McAfee | www.youtube.com

Rudolph’s Revenge is the hardest MTB race in North Texas and covers 30 or 40 miles of blazing fast gravel, difficult multi-use trail and technical singletrack trail. It has been compared to the Rule-of-Three race in Bentonville Arkansas due to the diverse terrain and questionable bike choices.

In this video we are going to overview a few of the key sections of this route and show off some of the challenges and terrain riders will encounter.

This video will be focused on the 30 mile option. For athletes doing the 40 mile route they will do 2 laps of the Isle Du Bois State Park singletrack.

As a brief overview, the route is summarized as follows and we will discuss these sections as follows …
