About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Last Ride Before HHH – August 26th Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on August 26, 2010 by Rick AnkrumAugust 26, 2010

[iframe http://connect.garmin.com:80/activity/embed/46293611 465 548]

This evening’s ride is my last preparation ride for Saturday’s Hotter’n Hell Hundred. Tomorrow we set out for Wichita Falls. This evening the temperature was 93 degrees but it did not seem that hot. Skies were clear and the wind a gentle 11 mph maximum. I did not see any other riders while I was out. When I got back I put chain lubricant on and pinched the tires to see if I should air them up more. I think they are aired enough from the pinch but also from the solid thump when I ride over pavement changes. I don’t think there are any other maintenance issues to check. tire thread is still good from when I rotated the tires a couple of months ago. all that is left is the drive. I was able to meet my goal for the miles for this part of the week. I should be able to get 75 on Saturday and maybe 20 on Sunday. It is possible to hit 600 miles for the month.

Today’s ride statistics:

  • miles 23.96
  • riding time 1:37:06
  • average pace 4:03 min/mile
  • average speed 14.8 mph
  • max speed 20.7 mph
  • average cadence 77.5 rpm
  • max cadence 106 rpm
  • climb 147 ft., descend 175 ft., max elevation 104 ft.
  • August miles 481.51
  • YTD miles 3589.98

Saturday, September 25, 2010
Online Registration Closes Friday, September 24, 2010 at 8:00 AM ET
Free, practice endurance event for mountain bikers. Presented by The Spinistry and Solavaca Ranch. More details soon.

You wanted it, you got it.

9/25 Solavaca 51 mile endurance training ride in a race format. Solo and 2 person relay 6 laps most likely. Details are being ironed out but Mack is on board.

10/16 Midnight Mini Massacre 50 miles of (mostly) dirt roads Decatur/Rhome/Aurora

11/20 (TBD) most likely dirt road/gravel

12/11 DVDS

These will be training rides NOT races. We will time the laps and keep track of results for reference/training purposes and each ride will have a format similar to Spinistry style events to familiarize riders with the rules of those events. There are no entry fees and no awards ceremonies. This is an ideal format to familiarize yourself with endurance mountain bike events and gravel grinders. More details soon and it will require online registration so that we can have participant data loaded in the timing software.
