About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Pitser Garrison Civic Center, Lufkin, Texas

Imagine miles of rolling hills and thickly wooded forests! The Pineywoods Purgatory – fall’s premier cycling event – offers four rides ranging from 25 to 102 miles that take you through Texas Forest Country’s best! Don’t let the first few miles fool you – the terrain is not without challenge! And to cap off your ride, the Lufkin Host Lions Club and its cadre of volunteers and partners offer unmatched hospitality to riders and their guests. It’s not just a ride; it’s a weekend experience you’ll want to make an annual event! Lots of folks already do!

You can register on-line or mail in your registration form. Bring some friends and family along too. Riders can enjoy our free fajita & fixin’s party after the ride. Then ride Sunday morning with the Angelina Bicycle Club. Make it a weekend!

The ride begins Saturday morning at the Pitser Garrison Civic Center, located at 601 North 2nd Street in downtown Lufkin. Get directions here.
Pineywoods Purgatory Tour Map

Map

25 mile route… takes you through gently rolling hills. A quick, invigorating ride!

52 mile route… shows off our lush forests and the rural communities that dot the area.

72 mile route… is our most popular ride! Provides a scenic view of three counties including an iron bridge crossing! Recommended for the experienced cyclist.

102 mile route… wonderfully hilly ride that winds through many small hamlets with names like Sweet Union and Atoy – plus a finish you’ll never forget. Should be attempted by the experienced cyclist only.
