Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Tour de Florence Charity Bike Ride

Join us for our Third Annual Tour de Florence  Bike Ride, benefiting Florence’s Parks and Recreational Facilities. This ride takes you on a 15, 30, 45 or 60 mile route through Florence and Andice on back country roads.

Crit by the Creek – Salado, TX

The Second Annual Crit by the Creek course is at the Creeks of Salado and is a 0.7 mile loop on smooth, new asphalt roads with sweeping turns and only 2 corners that will require slowing.  The course is set on a very slight grade creating a false flat going up and a very slight down coming back.  The finish will be on the false flat going up.

Onsite registration and packet pick-up opens at 7:15 a.m. and closes 15 minutes prior to posted start times.  Race premes will be held at least once each race.

Bring the family and enjoy a day of shopping in historic Salado or stay the night in one of Salado’s bed & breakfast locations or the historic Stagecoach Inn.  Visit www.salado.com

King of the Causeway Tour & Poker Run – Port Isabel, TX

King of the Causeway Tour & Poker Run, 52 Mile Morning Race and Night Race Across the Bridge

Saturday 52 Mile Morning Road Race:
Morning race starts at 7:30 a.m. at Port Isabel High School located on Highway 100.  NEW THIS YEAR!!  Prizes for best sprint and climbs.  Course will be marked for sprinting and climbing.  Exact locations for sprint & climbs to be determined.  Cool prizes for winners of sprints and climbs.

Race Across Queen Isabella Causeway:  The night race is the official kick-off to the annual Iron Horse Sunset Memorial Parade which features hundreds of motorcycles parading across the Causeway and traveling the entire length of the Island to the Convention Center. Cyclists line up on the  Island and cross the Causeway twice before racing down the main boulevard of the Island for the finish.  Thousands of spectators line the parade route to watch the motorcycles roar by and this year they will be treated to our 4th exciting bicycle race to the finish line.  The Causeway is normally closed to bicycle traffic, so take advantage of this great opportunity to show what you are made of!

Sunday Morning BicycleTour & Poker Run:

Staging for the King of the Causeway Tour & Poker Run will be at SPI Convention Center and Visitor’s Bureau on the Island.  Packet pick up starts at 6:30 a.m.  The tour & poker run starts at 7:30 a.m. and its route takes you down the main boulevard on the Island, across the Causeway, and through some of the small, friendly towns in deep South Texas. Your first poker card is drawn at registration, then draw one at each of the support stations located on the course.  Turn in your poker hand at the end of the ride to be eligible to win fantastic door prizes.  SAG support provided by Team McAllen Cycling and SPI BikeFest. Course maps will be posted as soon as details are finalized.  New this year!!  On Sunday, women ride free.  Must be accompanied by fully registered adult male.
