About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Bright Blue Skies – August 1st Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on August 1, 2010 by Rick AnkrumAugust 1, 2010

[iframe http://connect.garmin.com:80/activity/embed/42730164 465 548]

The skies were so blue today during the ride. Humidity has dropped into the 40% range and I am not perspiring near as much. The temperature is supposed to hit 100 degrees today. It was 92 while I was riding. I pass a woman running and she said there were at least two people crazy enough to be out in the heat and sun. There was no breeze except what I created. No other riders were spotted. August riding is getting off to a good start.

Today’s ride statistics:

  • miles = 25.03
  • riding time = 1:40:47
  • average pace = 4:02 min/mile
  • average speed = 14.9 mph
  • max speed = 21.5 mph
  • average cadence = 76.6 rpm
  • max cadence = 103 rpm
  • climb 162 ft., descend 147 ft., max elevation 123 ft.
  • August miles 25.03
  • YTD miles 3133.50

A Country Saturday Morning – July 31st Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on July 31, 2010 by Rick AnkrumJuly 31, 2010

Saturday in rural southeast Texas is refreshing. Traffic is light to none, silence is present most of the time, and the scenery is great. Today’s ride took me to Splendora and then Grangerland before heading back to Porter and home. At the Splendora Chevron station 5 or 6 bikers were pulling in as I was getting ready to ride to Grangerland on FM2090. They were from Kingwood like me. After that I did not meet any other bikers.

Weather today is supposed to hit 99 degrees with clear skies. I wanted to get riding early today to beat the heat. I left home at 7:05 AM (I can’ seem to get out the door before 7:00 AM). When I started the temperature was 77 or so and by the time I got back at 11:30 it was 90 degrees. Skies were indeed clear and the breeze was a light 9 mph from the WSW. Humidity seemed lower than recently at 55%. When I stopped at the Valero station on FM1314 sitting in the shade I actually felt very cool once the perspiration had mostly dried up.

I made my July YTD goal of at least 3,100 miles. Hopefully in August I can add 600 or so.

Today’s ride numbers:

  • miles = 53.59
  • riding time = 3:36:30
  • average pace = 4:02 min/mile
  • average speed = 14.9 mph
  • max speed = 20.2 mph
  • average cadence = 76.0 rpm
  • max cadence = 104 rpm
  • climb 237 ft., descend 304 ft., max elevation 194 ft.
  • July miles 541.81
  • YTD miles 3108.47
