About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Scott Ahrendt gears up for race that raises money for diabetes research, treatment
By JULIE BONNIN CHRONICLE CORRESPONDENT
July 30, 2010, 6:31AM
The world looks better from a bicycle. And for a cyclist, the world at more than 14,000 feet above sea level in the Colorado mountains creates an even more rarefied experience.

Still, Kingwood’s Scott Ahrendt, who made a 120-mile Colorado trek in July while there on a business trip, is every bit as excited about a September cycling event right here in Houston. …

The 2010 Goatneck Ride Report from Kue
by teamtexasrides
A Lesson in Preparation
I will forever remember the Goatneck this year because it was, simply put, one of the worst rides of my life. Lack of preparation in several areas culminated in this near disaster. For those of you who ride or wish to ride, take note of my mistakes. For those of you who don’t ride and probably never will, please laugh at my misfortune.

Train! What else is there to say. You can’t just get up off the couch…

Goatneck 2010 Bicycle Race  by Jim Manganella
Photos are from the 41 mile & 69 mile, Goatneck 2010 bicycle races at Cleburne, Texas. Taken one mile before the rest stop where the two routes separated. The images are in the race order at that point taken between 8:15 and 9:30 AM.

Unlike a marathon, this happens much faster and the badge numbers if they exist are all but impossible to see or record. If you know where you were in the pack and where you were in the start order, that may help to locate your photo. There’s 31 pages of photos below. If you were last, that’s easy go to the end! …

Three Days in a Row – August 2nd Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on August 2, 2010 by Rick AnkrumAugust 2, 2010

[iframe http://connect.garmin.com:80/activity/embed/42931697 465 548]

Three days riding in a row. This has been rare since early July. Today the temperature was in the upper 90’s but I don’t think it made it to the 100 degree mark the weather man was predicting. Clear skies did not shield me but the sun going down behind the tall trees did. A light breeze at 12 mph from the southeast was not a problem. My home weather station reported humidity at 28%. Not sure if this is correct but I did not have much perspiration until I stopped for several minutes.

Today’s ride statistics:

  • miles = 23.69 miles
  • riding time = 1:38:10
  • average pace = 4:09 min/mile
  • average speed = 14.5 mph
  • max speed = 2.3 mph
  • average cadence = 76.8 rpm
  • max cadence = 105 rpm
  • climb 167 ft., descend 167 ft., max elevation 97 ft.
  • August miles 48.72
  • YTD miles 3157.19

Flat Rock Ranch – Mountain Bike Ride | BPX Blog – BikePartsExpress.com
I was tired of being on a road bike, so yesterday I decided it was time to go for a mountain bike ride. One of my favorite trails in this area is Flat Rock Ranch  in Comfort Texas. Just north of San Antonio, Comfort is right in the middle of the beautiful Texas Hill Country. Flat Rock Ranch is a gem with over 25 miles of single track on 1100 acres of land. The trails were built by local mountain bikers, including me, and the land owner Jimmy Dreiss who also rides. …

Happy 76th Birthday Isidro!!!!!: …he did it again
Saturday July 31, 2010, 76 miles (122 km) – Total so far: 76 miles (122 km)
from www.crazyguyonabike.com
Today was my father’s 76th Birthday. For the fourth year in a row, we rode a mile for each year. This year our ride covered 76 miles. My Dad decided to do this ride annually since he was diagnosed with cancer in 2006. Since then, he has riden his age in miles each year. The first year, we rode in my hometown of The Woodlands, TX. The next two years, the ride was in his hometown of Venice, FL. And this year, the ride was back in The Woodlands, Tx.

My Dad and I left my house at 6:30am and headed towards Montgomery, TX (about 25 miles northwest). Kashay joined us in Montgomery (she drove to Montgomery from our house)and rode with us for about 20 miles in Sam Houston forest. My Dad and I then rode back to The Woodlands covering an additional 31 miles. …
