About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Texbiker.net Posted on May 26, 2010 by Rick AnkrumMay 26, 2010

This is way beyond my league.

A weekend at Armstrong’s ranch
from Cyclingnews News Headlines by Sue George
Most of the big names in North American mountain biking will converge on Lance Armstrong’s ranch outside of Austin, Texas, this weekend. This will be the third stop of USA Cycling’s Pro XCT series. Nobody, including the organizers, know for sure if Lance Armstrong himself will make an appearance at the race, but regardless, pro racers will compete in cross country racing on Saturday, on what is supposed to be a challenging course completed with rolling Texas hills. Amateurs will also race on Sunday. …

Join us at the Camp Eagle Classic Mountain Bike Festival – you don’t have to ride if you aren’t a mountain biker – there is plenty more to do such as:
1400 acres of the Texas Hill country; a spring-fed crystal clear river with 1.2 million new gallons of water every day so plenty of kayaking and swimming; miles of pristine single track, clean limestone cliffs with bouldering, top rope climbing, and lead climbing; trail running, hiking, and lots more activities than just mountain biking, but there is a lot of mountain biking at this one! …

31% Humidity in Houston? No Way. – May 26th Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on May 26, 2010 by Rick AnkrumMay 26, 2010

Sometimes in the spring the humidity in Houston can actually be low. While there is a reputation of high temperatures and high humidity today was not one of those days. Ozone warnings are in effect so that can make riding tough but it does not seem to bother me. Partly cloudy skies, 91 degrees and a calm wind meant weather was not really a factor in today’s ride.

I did spot the Batmobile at the Fuddrucker’s in Kingwood. No Batman or Robin though.

Today’s riding statistics:

  • miles = 23.15
  • riding time = 1:31:15
  • average pace = 3:56 min/mile
  • average speed = 15.2 mph
  • max speed = 21.7 mph
  • average cadence = 81.6 rpm
  • max cadence = 107 rpm
  • climb 150 ft., descend 169 ft., max elevation 98 ft.
  • May miles 518.97
  • YTD miles 1918.77
