About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Tour de Goatneck – Cleburne, TX

Texbiker.net Posted on May 22, 2010 by Rick AnkrumMay 22, 2010

The Goatneck Bike ride is a rolling hill course which averages around 35 feet per mile of climbing.  Click on the Directions tab and go to the Routes layout page for (69.5, 41, & 27) that provides elevation maps. The roads are well maintained country roads with little traffic. The prevailing winds during this time of year are from the southwest, which provides a tail wind for the last portion of the ride coming into the finish!  We provide rest stops every 8-9 miles on all courses.

Last year we had close to 2,500 riders.  We provide showers at the finish in the Cleburne High School basketball locker rooms, located in the gym registration area.

In an effort to keep our ride prices down and provide as low a cost ride as possible, we are not able to provide a meal afterward.  All money raised goes to various Johnson County charities.  Last year we were able to donate over $30,000 to local charities because of the participation of the riders.

Packets may be picked up July 23rd – July 29th during regular business hours at the Fort Worth Cycling & Fitness Center, (817) 244-7911  (817) 244-7911 or Friday, July, 30th, 6 – 8:00 p.m. & Saturday, July 31st, 6 – 8:00 a.m. at Cleburne High School.

The ride will start Saturday morning at 7:30 a.m., July 31st, 2010.

Texas Hill Country River Region Classic – Garner St. Park, TX

Texbiker.net Posted on May 22, 2010 by Rick AnkrumOctober 7, 2010

Experience the rugged beauty of the Texas Hill Country River Region by joining us each October for Bicycle Classic. This event is for the cyclist looking for a serious challenge as well as families wanting an enjoyable ride for everyone.
Headquartered at Garner State Park, Bicycle Classic kicks off on a Friday, with packet pickup, late registration, and a skills clinic focusing on climbing and descending skills needed for hill country rides. Maps of the area will be available for unsupported rides. An evening social with snacks, entertainment, and vendor booths is also part of the fun.

On Saturday, it’s your choice of supported routes: 32-mile Scenic Cruise, 52-mile Challenge, 68-mile Classic, and the 94-mile Century. The 52-mile Challenge and the Classic Century include the most spectacular hill climb and descent in Texas. All routes include beautiful views, river crossings, friendly, well-prepared rest stops at least every 10 miles, and expert SAG wagons and mechanics.
Enjoy a spaghetti dinner on Saturday night that benefits the park. Bicycle Classic proceeds are donated to local scout troops, EMS, and fire departments that volunteer their time to help ensure your ride is a safe one. For details on this year’s event click here.
