A couple of weeks ago I learned of the Peru Parts Project. The PPP is an effort by Lon Halderman to supply bicycle clothing and components to aspiring riders in Peru. I gathered up a bunch of stuff I had been holding onto because I hated to throw them away or give to Goodwill. I received a letter from Lon thanking me for the donation. In addition he sent three pictures of people who have benefited from the project so far. If you have spare or extra stuff you might consider this project.
Down on the Ranch We Recover, May 9th Bike Ride
After yesterday’s ride today was really dedicated to recovery. While I went fast I did not set out to have a fast ride. Mostly the speed came from the 14 mph SE wind being a tailwind at times. The temperature was having trouble getting into the 70’s when I left home so I wore a long sleeve and short sleeve jersey for warmth. When I got home the temperature finally made it to 82 degrees. Overcast clouds kept the sun to a minimum. I was down on the ranch on this ride when I went through the Valley Ranch subdivision in Porter. No other riders spotted today. They are probably over at their mother’s celebrating Mother’s Day. We will leaving shortly to do the same thing.
Today’s ride statistics:
- miles = 24.32
- riding time = 1:43:35
- average pace = 4:16 min/mile
- average speed = 14.1 mph
- max speed = 19.5 mph
- average cadence = 76.5 rpm
- max cadence = 101 rpm
- climb 224 ft., descend 255 ft., max elevation 108 ft.
- May miles 223.17
- YTD miles 1622.97
