About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Back Riding After A Day Off, April 13th Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on April 13, 2010 by Rick AnkrumApril 13, 2010

Traffic was really bad on the drive home yesterday evening so when I got home I told my wife that I would switch my off day from Tuesday to Monday with the hope that the construction delay would not be so bad on today’s evening commute. Well the drive home was not perfect but I got home 30 minutes earlier than Monday. The temperature for the ride was a pleasant 74 degrees and the wind was 16mph from the SE. Partly cloudy skies made for an enjoyable ride especially when I reached the turn around point and had a nice tailwind back home.

Today’s ride statistics: (you will notice a slight difference between the numbers I post here and what shows in my Garmin Connect information. SportTracks computes things slightly different from my Garmin Connect)

  • miles = 22.62
  • riding time = 1:30:07
  • average pace = 3:59 min/mile
  • average speed = 15.1 mph
  • max speed = 21.8 mph
  • average cadence = 80.8 rpm
  • max cadence = 110 rpm
  • climb 194 ft., descend 181 ft.
  • April miles 242.29
  • YTD miles 1129.05

Texas Bicycling Blog and News Roundup for April 11th

Organizers gearing up for cycling events
Hundreds expected for races featuring ‘rolling enclosures’
GRAFORD — Drivers in the northern part of Palo Pinto County be advised, part of the community effort for the April 17-18 Mineral Wells Stage Race is to get the word out to residents to “expect delays” and “share the road.”

As they have in the past eight or more years, Team Bicycles Inc. and the Mineral Wells Chamber of Commerce will host their spring bike race, which could draw as many as 600 racers and onlookers to the county.

To attract riders, TBI asked Sheriff Ira Mercer if they could have a “bigger and better” and “safer” event by having “rolling enclosures” that will protect packs of bicycle racers. Support for the plan passed and other law enforcement departments have joined ranks to aid the event. …

Pedalcycling-A Houston, Texas Bicycling Blog: Stupid Bicycling …
by The Big Fella
If we cyclists expect motorists to take us seriously, shouldn’t we display common sense whenever we ride?

I’ve decided to chronicle the random acts of stupid bicycling that I witness so that whoever reads this blog (mostly me) will remember to avoid them.

For instance, I definitely won’t be like the ninja-salmon cyclist I saw recently on Westheimer while driving home from an extended day at work.

Today, I saw three particularly egregious acts.  One of them potentially put me in danger …
