About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Texas Bicycling Blog and News Roundup for April 3rd

Charley and Kamala in Tandem: North Central Texas Observations
by tumbleweedland
We’re still in Texas and Texas is home, but some of these little prairie towns have a surreal, alien feel . We stopped at a restaurant (I should call them bicycle fuel stations), and parked our bike in front of the only window so we would be able to see it as we ate. Since I met Mack, the guy from that rest area who likes to see what happens when he moves a cycle tourist’s ride, I now want to see my bike more than ever. Darn! The dining area with the windows was the smoking section! Oh well, food was good…

Now 58, Moskowitz is the captain for the ConocoPhillips cycling team, and is about to lead more than 500 fellow riders on what will be his 16th BP MS 150 charity bike ride from Houston to Austin on April 17 to 18. …

Chamber of Commerce Weather for Today’s Bike Ride

Texbiker.net Posted on April 3, 2010 by Rick AnkrumApril 3, 2010

The weatherman was right on this one. Blue skies, 85 degrees at Bush Airport, variable winds of 7 mph. It was 91 degrees at my house on my weather station. I did not get an early start  leaving home at 11:19 AM I would have left earlier but my cellphone battery was empty so I waited for it to charge. It was slow so I ended up taking my wife’s phone. Some things I saw on my ride:

  • 6 or 7 other riders headed west while I was going east.
  • Lots of wildflowers. Along US90 east of Crosby Indian Paint Brushes were brilliant orange. The front yard of one house in Crosby was covered with Bluebonnets.
  • A funeral procession was heading north on FM2100 from Crosby, each car pulled to the shoulder and stopped. In deep east Texas I have seen men stop their pickups on the side of the road, get out, and take their hat off when a funeral procession went by. This is quite touching.
  • At the Chevron station in Huffman I talked with a lady that is going on her MS150 ride in 2 weeks. She is so excited. She was telling me about her dog encounters and how she is always at the back of the riders because she is slow. We exchanged some stories.
  • Going across Lake Houston I noticed a big white cross on one of the islands north of the causeway.

Today’s ride statistics:

  • miles = 46.11
  • riding time = 3:05:55
  • average pace = 4:02 min/mile
  • average speed = 14.9 mph
  • max speed = 21.9 mph
  • average cadence = 78.2 rpm
  • max cadence = 104 rpm
  • climb 230 ft., descend 167 ft.
  • April total miles = 86.22
  • YTD miles = 972.98
