About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

March 31st Ride Report: Warm and Sunny

Texbiker.net Posted on March 31, 2010 by Rick AnkrumMarch 31, 2010

This evening’s ride was comfortable with the temperature at 80 degrees when I got home from work at 5:50. Sunset was still almost 2 hours away. Ride conditions are starting to get reliable although a quick cold front is supposed to come Friday night. The evening wind was 15 mph from the SSE. I left home at 6:13PM. This is nice considering last year I was fortunate to be home from work by that time. Road construction in the Houston area can make commute time unpredictable. My route from work is pretty clear now.

Tonight’s ride statistics:

  • miles = 19.31
  • riding time = 1:22:49
  • average pace = 4:17 min/mile
  • average speed = 14.0 mph, max speed = 21.9 mph
  • average cadence = 78 rpm
  • max cadence = 106 rpm
  • climb 202 ft., descend 186 ft.
  • March total miles = 400.19
  • Average March miles = 346.81
  • 2010 total miles = 886.76

by Justin
On Saturday morning, I left my parent’s house in Hollywood Park for an 80-mile roundtrip bicycle tour from north central San Antonio to Castroville, Texas.  I was joined by Kim, a coworker and friend who wanted to experience her first bicycle tour and having another rider with me was a welcome change from my previous two solo tours.  I’m very proud of her accomplishment!  Bravo! …

Texas Independence Bicycle Tour Reviews | Active.com
This was a great ride.  The only thing that I would say is that the rest stops were to far apart.  Look forward to doing it again next year.

This was a fantastic ride and I will definately be doing it again next year.  I agree with the previous review about more rest stops, but the ones that were there were stocked FULL and everyone was extremely friendly and very helpful.  The support on this ride was great right down to the end, however, it seemed at times that the SAG vehicles were MIA.  Luckily, that didn’t become an issue for me.  For a first annual ride, I would say it was exceptional!!  An added bonus was everyone cheering for the riders as they arrived, it means so much to those of us who have just begun cycling.  Thank you Deer Park Rotary!!!! …
