About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Today Was a Recovery Ride In Leg Warmers

Texbiker.net Posted on March 28, 2010 by Rick AnkrumMarch 28, 2010

The temperature was there but the wind more than made up for it. Wind was NNW at 23 mph with gusts to 29 mph. The temperature was 72 degrees when I got back but the wind chill had to be in the 50’s. I am glad I decided to wear leg warmers and my wind jacket. After yesterday’s ride my legs were sore and it as all I could do to turn north and ride into the wind at a blistering 10 to 12 mph. I intentionally limited my gearing and I was glad. If you look at the speed chart below you will notice at the 10 mile mark my direction turned back towards home which meant mainly northerly riding. The Mercier Serpens was carrying me at times as I tried to coast whenever possible.

Today’s ride statistics:

  • miles = 18.14
  • riding time =  1:22:57
  • average pace = 4:34 min/mile (I am surprised it was anywhere near this number. I thought I was doing 6 minute miles.)
  • average speed =  13.1
  • average cadence = 73.5
  • max cadence = 108 (not sure where this happened.)
  • climb = 440 ft. , descend = 375 ft.
  • Month to date miles = 361.98
  • YTD miles = 848.55

  • max cadence = 102

Ride 2 Recovery

10 Questions with Craig ‘Junior’ Miller | The Wheel Brothers …
from wheelbrothers.com
If you are listening to sports radio in North Texas, you know Junior Miller from the little Ticket. We’ve been listening to him and George since 1995 and as most P1’s know, he is an avid runner and cyclist.

We managed to catch up with him and he was kind enough to answer a few questions for us:

How long have you been cycling and what got you into the sport?

I’ve loved riding since I was a kid. I remember in 8th grade I used to go up to the bike shop near our house and read the bike racing…

It’s Riding Time « W.O.W. Central Texas

Thanks to Martha Anhalt, you got to read about the Wounded Warrior Project Bike Ride this morning.  It was so awesome!!  I hope some of you can ride next year if they are riding in the area.  I laughed, cried, was inspired and was honored to ride with these men and women!!
Sunday is supposed to be a pretty day in the upper 60’s with sunshine, so I will call a ride for 1:30 p.m. at our regular  location…..the intersection of FM 439 and Sparta Road near Belton Lake.  The ride is a total of 27 miles on an out-and-back course.  If you don’t want to ride the whole distance, come anyway, and ride as far as you want before turning around.  You need to at least START riding…

Bike Out Hunger – Ballinger, TX

Texbiker.net Posted on March 26, 2010 by Rick AnkrumMarch 26, 2010

The Bike Out Hunger ride is a way to raise money and awareness to fight hunger in Texas and beyond.  The ride will be from Ballinger to San Antonio over six days and about 445 miles. The dates are April 19-24.

There are 1.3 million Texans who are unsure of when they will get their next meal.  You can help change that. The money raised supports existing feeding and empowering efforts that end the cycle of hunger and poverty.

Route: San Angelo area to San Antonio (approximately 450 miles)

Dates: April 19-24. Come and go riders are welcome

What it is: A way to raise awareness and money to fight hunger in Texas. This is in partnership with the Texas Hunger Initiative, Baylor University School of Social Work, the Texas Baptist Offering for World Hunger, Texas Baptists and the USDA.

Who’s invited: Anyone who wants to ride to raise awareness and money for the cause.
