About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Texas Bicycling Blog and News Roundup for March 20th

Walking, biking safety a concern
by San Angelo Standard Times
By Jennifer Rios
SAN ANGELO, Texas — Leaning against a light pole on Knickerbocker Road, a solid-white bicycle memorializes a man who died only feet away.

Restaurant employees who work nearby said they see people plant artificial flowers by the bike’s pedals. They think it may be relatives of David Wesley Camp, paying homage to the man who was killed recently in a motor vehicle-bicycle collision.

Inches beyond the bicycle’s tires, cars and trucks pass by in a blur while drivers travel the four lanes of one of the city’s busiest streets, …

Texas  Hill Country 600K
by Mike Wilkerson
Let’s take a trip back to 2009 and the first running of the Texas Hill Country 600km (though not a true 600k at only 360 miles):  John Schlitter of Team Bacchetta won the overall with a time of 20:59 total time while Kent Polk, also of Team Bacchetta, finished fourth overall. They were the sum total of recumbents in attendance.

But that was 2009 and ooohhh how things have changed!

This year’s race had thirteen solo entries with one recumbent rider, Chris Malloy, who sadly ran out of time and DNF’d along with two other soloists. …

#11 Texas A&M Tunis-Roubaix: Race Report « Gene’s Blog
This is a report of the first collegiate cycling race I’ve participated in. Last January, I decided to join the Texas Cycling Team in order to find something to motivate myself as I finish my college career. I’ve also got a 60-page thesis to write so I’ve decided to devote some time every day to writing in this blog in order to work on my prolific-ness with respect to writing.

I’m still healing from a series of injuries that I’ve sustained since the beginning of last year, first beginning with a hand injury…

The 10th National Bike Summit
from RoadBikeRider.com Newsletter
Issue No. 434
The summit wrapped up with a gala Congressional reception last Thursday in Washington, DC. The highlight of the 3-day gathering was U.S. Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood declaring his support for cycling on the federal level. “You have a full partner in Ray LaHood,” he said, and announced “a sea change. People across America who value bicycling should have a voice when it comes to transportation planning. This is the end of favoring motorized transportation at the expense of non-motorized.” More than 725 bicycle advocates, educators, enthusiasts and industry leaders attended the Summit, the top 10 highlights of which are listed by the League of American Bicyclists. LAB termed LaHood’s declaration “simply the strongest statement of support for prioritizing bicycling and walking ever to come from a sitting secretary of transportation.” A 4-minute video titled “Voices from the National Bike Summit” helps explain what took place and what’s gained by participation.

Opening Night at the Driveway Race Series
from Mike’s Bike Blog
With the change in daylight savings welcomes back the Driveway Race Series. I’ve raced at the Driveway 2 times before and had less than spectacular performances. This year I wanted to give it more of a shot and hopefully string a few more appearances than 1 per year.
Mike's Bike Blog
For this first Driveway of 2010 I signed up for the 4/5 race, I didn’t think I was ready to jump into the 3/4 race. I wanted to get at least…
