About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Back on The Road Ride, Warm Attire Is Hard to Guess Correctly

Texbiker.net Posted on March 22, 2010 by Rick AnkrumMarch 22, 2010

After the weekend cold front moved on I thought the weather would be warmer for this evening’s ride but It still felt chilly when the clouds dimmed the sunlight. At least this time I wore my leg warmers which makes a big difference for my staying warm. The temperature at the finish was 64 degrees, wind West at 4 mph. The Mercier road bike was ready for the trip.

Today’s ride statistics:

  • miles = 18.13
  • riding time = 1:14:21
  • average pace = 4:06 min/mile
  • average speed = 14.5 mph
  • average cadence = 78
  • max cadence = 109
  • climb = 153 ft., descend = 115 ft.
  • YTD miles = 767.94

Rob D’Amico, LOCAL CONTRIBUTOR
Austin is taking steps to offer more transportation choices, and one particularly encouraging effort can be found in the city’s Nueces Bike Boulevard project.

A bike boulevard is a street where auto traffic is calmed and often reduced to create a more attractive and accessible bicycling environment. The boulevard is promoted with signage, road stenciling and public art. In short, a bike boulevard is a street intended to attract inexperienced…
