About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Waco Wild West Century – Waco, TX

Texbiker.net Posted on June 13, 2009 by Rick AnkrumJune 13, 2009

10-mile family friendly route goes through beautiful Cameron Park and downtown Waco. There are several rest stops to make it a fun ride for all.

26-mile route is also fun for families and recreational riders. This route is quite flat and passes by the Lake Waco Dam and the peaceful surrounding countryside.

50-mile & 65-mile routes are relatively flat with a few challenging hills thrown in to keep you from getting bored!

The 100-mile route take riders through picturesque countryside on rural roads in McLennan and Bosque counties. The route goes through historic Mother Neff State Park, the oldest state park in Texas. This route also has riders pedal past former President George W. Bush’s Crawford Ranch. Although relatively flat, there are some challenging hills to keep your heart pumping.

Again this year, the 50, 65 and 100-mile routes feature a rest stop at the Mars Snackfood candy factory, home of Skittles®.

Texas Hill Country River Region Classic – Garner State Park, TX

Texbiker.net Posted on June 13, 2009 by Rick AnkrumJune 13, 2009

Experience the rugged beauty of the Texas Hill Country River Region by joining us the third weekend each October for Bicycle Classic. This event is for the cyclist looking for a serious challenge as well as families wanting an enjoyable ride for everyone.

Headquartered at Garner State Park, Bicycle Classic kicks off on a Friday, with packet pickup, late registration, and a skills clinic focusing on climbing and descending skills needed for hill country rides. Maps of the area will be available for unsupported rides. An evening social with snacks, entertainment, and vendor booths is also part of the fun.

On Saturday, it’s your choice of supported routes: 32-mile Scenic Cruise, 52-mile Challenge, 68-mile Classic, and the 94-mile Century. The 52-mile Challenge and the Classic Century include the most spectacular hill climb and descent in Texas. All routes include beautiful views, river crossings, friendly, well-prepared rest stops at least every 10 miles, and expert SAG wagons and mechanics.

Enjoy a spaghetti dinner on Saturday night that benefits the park. Bicycle Classic proceeds are donated to local scout troops, EMS, and fire departments that volunteer their time to help ensure your ride is a safe one.

The Cow Creek Country Classic offers six route options, from novice to casual to experienced long distance riders. All preregistered entrants will receive a commemorative T-shirt and various other souvenirs. All pre-registrants will get their Cow Creek Country Classic T-Shirt with their packets

WHEN & WHERE & RULES

Saturday, June 27, 2009 with a 7:30 AM start time, at the Waxahachie High School on Highway 77 North and High School Drive (see map for details). The 100 mile riders will start first. For safety, groups will be staggered at start by distance, with the 18 mph plus riders starting first. Late arrivals will be mass started at 8 AM.

Our ride is not a race, and will consist of 10, 19, 36, 46, 75 and 100 mile tours on a well marked course. The 10 mile is a leisurely in-town tour of historic Waxahachie, with unique “Gingerbread Homes” and “National Historical Register Landmarks”, such as the octagon-shaped Chautauqua Auditorium in Getzendaner Park and the Ellis County Courthouse. All ages can participate with confidence of a safe ride. This years in town ride will also utilize part of the new Hike ‘n Bike Trail that Waxahachie has opened, the ride will also go through the downtown area and if you want you may stop and eat or shop in the many antiques and arts & crafts shops around the square. This is an ideal ride for beginners, children and families seeking a fun morning together.
The 19, 36, and 46 mile tours go through some very beautiful, scenic parts of Ellis County. The 75 and 100 mile tours are excellent rides through the beautiful countryside of South West and Southern Ellis County and parts of Johnson, Hill and Navarro Counties. There are some rolling hills, but most of the roadways are fairly flat.
All courses other than the Waxahachie City 10 mile are on paved rural state and farm roads, most of which have no shoulder.
