About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Missing Black with Blue Graphics Custom Orange P7

By 4fun | austinmountainbiking.com

If anyone Sees or found an Custom Orange P7 let me know. It either fell off my rack on my way to Brushy Creek or someone was really fast and swiped it. I’m thinking the former. I noticed once I pulled into the park. I retraced my route home and found my water bottle on the bridge at Brushy Creek and Great Oaks.

It looks like the adult bike in this picture.

Any help greatly appreciated!

Wrapped Up The Week Biking Kingwood, San Jacinto Bayou Greenway

Texbiker.net Posted on September 26, 2021 by Rick AnkrumSeptember 26, 2021

I wrapped up the week with a ride around Kingwood and the San Jacinto Bayou Greenway. The ride began at 1:27 PM (since it is Sunday I waited until after church) and finished at 3:07 PM. I biked 20.66 miles pushing the week to 241.96 miles, the highest week since June. I rode my Canyon Endurace bike. Weather was just beautiful, maybe my almost perfect setting though the wind could’ve been a little lower at the start. A few streets were ones I haven’t biked in a long time in Forest Cove. Checking my ride history for 2021 I found this was the 11th time for “Kingwood Streets”.

9-26-2021 Week Bike Rides Summary ending 9-26-2021

Today may be the last of the sunny and dry fall weather for the next week if the forecast holds. I’m glad I was able to enjoy it while it lasted. Weather summary for the bike ride: start 83 (46% humidity, 60 dew point), a few clouds, wind E 10 mph; finish 84 (48% humidity, 62 dew point), a few clouds, wind var 6 mph.

The chain noise is gone on my Canyon Endurace since applying the Chain L #5 lube. Smooth shifts and quiet while pedaling.

I stopped by the lake for these photos. Across the lake a goose or big duck was making a lot of noise about something.

Video: Dash cam video shows man on bicycle leading Castle Hills police on chase

Katrina Webber | www.ksat.com

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – It sounds cliché, but this actually is one of those stories that you just have to see to believe.

It includes video from Castle Hills police officers’ dashboard cameras showing a man leading them on a chase while on a bicycle early Friday morning.

Cpl. Garrett Earlywine, who was one of the officers involved, said he first noticed the 27-year old suspect after 3 a.m. behind a shopping center near Blanco Road and Loop 410.

Earlywine said he noticed the man, dressed …

Ivan Alonzo interview: "I lost 100 lbs by not beating myself up over missing a training day or two"

By Matt Kollat | www.t3.com

Looking at Ivan Alonzo’s Instagram account now, you wouldn’t believe he ever had any issues with his weight. You’ll be even more surprised that he achieved his mind-blowing weight loss results and became a Zwift-endorsed athlete not by being too regimented, but by allowing himself to enjoy the process and being healthy in general.

“People that I’ve met within the last few years find it hard to believe that I haven’t always been this way", says Ivan, "Being healthy has taken over my life the right way.”

Zwift Academy athlete Ivan, who went from running a 4:30 marathon to 2:57 and getting his Berlin Marathon 2021 qualifier, is a Texas-based husband and father of two young children. Ivan describes himself as a “runner pretending to be a cyclist who occasionally pretends to be a triathlete”. …

200+ Mile Week, 700+ Mile Month, Fall Weather Still Here

Texbiker.net Posted on September 25, 2021 by Rick AnkrumSeptember 25, 2021

I want my ride videos and blog posts to inspire people to get on their bike and ride. It doesn’t have to be like my rides.

Normally on Saturday I try to start my rides around 8 AM but today the temperature was below 60 then so I waited until 9:10 AM to mount my Canyon Endurace and roll away. Starting later I thought I might have missed seeing other cyclists but that wasn’t the case. I rode my typical Saturday route, “Atascocita – Huffman – Walden”. I needed 12 miles to hit 200 for the week and 15 miles to reach my 700 mile goal for September. I accomplished both riding 32.56 miles today. 7 times I biked this route in 2021. YTD I am at 7,492 miles.

I dressed warmer than other rides this week with a long sleeve jersey under my short sleeve jersey. It replaced my arm sleeves. I’m glad I made that choice at the beginning because the shade felt chilly. When I finished at 11:44 AM the temperature had not moved above the upper 70’s. Lots of sun made for a gorgeous day to ride. The weather summary for the bike ride: start 69 (76% humidity, 62 dew point), a few clouds, wind var 5 mph; finish 78 (52% humidity, 59 dew point), a few clouds, wind calm.

Last night I applied Chain L #5 chain lube to the Canyon Endurace. Recently the chain made noise and I wondered if putting the Chain L #5 on would reduce the noise. It ran smooth and quiet during the bike ride. The drawback is if I need to touch the chain I will get black marks on my fingers. I wax my chains to reduce that problem.

The light wind helped my legs keep power flowing even crossing Lake Houston.
