About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

No Crowd Spring Creek Greenway Bike Ride

7-1-2021 Strava Bike Ride Summary
7-1-2021 Strava Bike Ride Summary

I was thinking about where to ride today when my phone notification showed photos from July 1st, 2019. Looking they were when I rode the Spring Creek Greenway so I decided to ride there today.

It was a late start after watching stage 6 of the Tour de France and then changing the batteries in the speed and cadence sensors. I rolled away on my Canyon Endurace at 11:04 AM. I would finish at 2:33 PM. A summary of the previous rides on the greenway this year.

7-1-2021 YTD Bike Rides Summary on Today’s Route

The July goal calls for 800 miles. these 43.79 miles is a good start. Strava recorded 3 medals from the ride. There wasn’t many people on the greenway. I don’t know if my late start or being Thursday was the reason. There were some bikers as you can see in the video.

Biking the greenway when it is hot reduces the heat some with all of the shade. Weather conditions for today’s bike ride: start 86 (66% humidity, 73.8 dew point), partly cloudy, wind calm; finish 87 (60% humidity, 71.8 dew point), partly cloudy, wind NE 5 mph.

I took these photos when I took a short rest break at John Pundt Park on the way back to the I-69/US59 trailhead. On the way back through Jesse Jones Park I saw two people getting ready to ride their 3 wheel low recumbent bikes. I passed another one twice on the greenway as you can see in the video.

Texas cycling group raising money for cancer visits London

By Nita Johnson | www.sentinel-echo.com

It’s a long road from Texas to Kentucky, especially when that road is taken via bicycle.

But that’s what 19 students from the University of Texas have undertaken over the past several weeks – marking Day 20 of a 70-day trek through the southeastern United States before turning their journey northward when they traveled through London.

Housed at Microtel on KY 192 on Thursday evening, the 19-member club of Texas 4000 launched their expedition from Austin on the Smokey Mountain Route. Early Thursday morning, they left Cumberland Gap and traveled to London, primarily following U.S. 25-E to U.S. 25-S.

Morgan Martinez is one of the members of the Texas 4000 and has been cycling only since …

Exceeded My June Goal And More Despite Rain

Texbiker.net Posted on June 30, 2021 by Rick AnkrumJune 30, 2021

A weather turnaround for today’s bike ride compared to yesterday. I rode out at 11:01 AM on my Canyon Endurace CF SLX bike. Choosing my “New Caney – Tavola – Valley Ranch” route I headed north. I wanted to ride at least 19 miles for June 2021 to equal June 2020 miles and succeeded biking 35.26 miles. June 2021 total miles is 919.08, the highest month since July 2020.

6-30-2021 Summary June Bike Rides
6-30-2021 Summary June Bike Rides

I biked 25 days and averaged 36.76 miles per ride. The longest ride was June 12th at the Mesquite Rodeo Road ride. My goal was 800 miles. Year to date I biked 4,760 miles (road and Zwift combined). At the halfway point if I ride that many miles the rest of the year it will total 9,520, about 200 miles more than 2020. But weather can change that. How 2021 YTD miles compares to previous years. Except for 2020 this year’s miles is the best compared to years 2011 through 2019. I retired in July 2011 and I increased my biking activity.

6-30-2021 Strava Year Progressions YTD Miles
6-30-2021 Strava Year Progressions YTD Miles

Today’s weather was much drier than yesterday’s rain delayed bike ride. Temperatures have not been up to the normal highs lately because of the rain. Weather conditions for the bike ride: start 84 (81% humidity, 78 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind E 8 mph; finish 88 (59% humidity, 71.5 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind NE 8 mph.

The route I biked today shows some frequency with 9 times. Both bikes have been used but the Canyon the most.
