Testing My Bike at The Only Chair Lift Bike Park in Texas!

Let’s go see what my commencal meta tr 29 can do at Spider Mountain! So far this bike has been amazing for me, so i’m excited to see how it handles some more intense trails. Spider Mountain is the only chair lift bike park in Texas. Definitely recommend making it out here if you can!

This loop has it all! It starts with a nice easy green Trail graduates to a fun, intense black trail and finishes off with a flow tech blue trail giving you the whole rainbow of mountain bike trails all while being able to check out dinosaur footprints and a historic home that was never lived in! despite my flat tire, I give it a must ride rating if you are in the San Antonio area!

From its rich history to its many events and bicycle trails, Austin offers something for every kind of cyclist.

Let’s start with the history of cycling in Austin. The city has a long and proud history of bicycle culture dating back to the 1800s. In fact, the first documented bicycle ride in Texas was in Austin in 1885. Since then, the city has continued to embrace cycling, and today it is home to some of the most passionate and dedicated cyclists in the country.

The Wind Almost Forgot To Show Up. Jalapeno 100 Bike Ride Harlingen

I made a mistake, forgetting to bring my leg warmers. As I drove from my hotel to the starting line the sun came up and I hope the temperature would too. It was 50 degrees when I got there. Back at the hotel I pulled on the red arm warmers I brought up my legs. They fit tightly but I figured they would be better than nothing.

The 67 mile riders left a couple of minutes at 7:27 AM. The arm warmers were doing their thing and my legs weren’t too cold. My fingers were a different story. As we rode north along side US77 the sun was above the eastern horizon and when I wasn’t in the shade it warmed me some. The wind was calm and once we got to the wind turbines they were not turning but facing north. I kept an eye on them during the ride to judge the wind direction and strength. In Raymondville we turned to the east. I rode with a couple of cyclists. Robert follows me on Twitter and took a selfie of us. His friend Rey was on a Canyon Endurace similar to what I was riding today, Canyon Endurace CF 7. The wind was still not much of an issue. At the rest stop around 33 miles we stopped and took the arm warmers off my legs. They were stretched to far to use anymore and I didn’t want to carry them so I put them in the trash.

The turbines started to move with the wind from the east as we rode south through San Perlita. By the time I made the turn to the west on FM490 the wind was stronger but a nice tailwind pushing all the way to US77. Turning left onto the US77 frontage road the wind became a problem from there to the finish. At 47 miles I stopped at the rest stop for ice water and a snack, talked to the two ladies manning the stop. The next rest stop was at 55 miles, about 11 miles to go. More snacks, a fudgesicle and talked with a couple men helping at the stop. Fortunately the road surface on the frontage road was fairly smooth asphalt except for a section where we crossed under US77 and rode south on the other side down a water drain way.

Due to road construction the route went west on SH107 in Combes which reduced the SE wind with some trees and houses shielding the road. At Primera Road I rode east back to US77 and the wind. From there it was about 3 miles to the finish. More time into the wind and then to the finish at 1:05 PM. While the increased this was not as bad as some of my previous Jalapeno 100 rides. SportTracks shows riding it 4 times but some of them were before I used SportTracks.

Cyclist & vehicle crash in southwest Abilene

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – A cyclist and vehicle crashed in southwest Abilene Thursday evening.

The accident occurred near the intersection of Texas Avenue and Dub Wright Boulevard. One person was transported by ambulance. The northbound lane of Dub Wright Boulevard has been restricted to one lane.

Police release name of Diboll bicyclist who died after being struck by car Friday evening

A Diboll man died when he was struck by a vehicle while riding his bicycle across North Temple Drive around 4:30 p.m. Friday, according to Diboll Police Det. Brad Reid.

James Calvin Allen, 67, failed to yield the right of way to a small sedan when he entered the roadway, causing the car to strike him, Reid said.

“He got on his bicycle going across the street to the convenience store,” Reid said, noting that Allen suffered from Alzheimer’s and was possibly having “an episode.”

Amidst a looming shutdown, Houston’s bike-sharing program, BCycle, is offering discounted monthly memberships and plans to reopen bike stations in the southwest area of the city, a move aimed at hopefully increasing revenue and ridership. Lots Of Wind, Iwo Jima Monument. Wilson Road – Combes – Loop 499 Bike Ride

Tomorrow I will ride the Jalapeno 100 in Harlingen. Today I wanted to get a feel for the roads around the area. Checking the rides I did last year in RideWithGPS I downloaded the Wilson Road – Combes – Loop 499 one to my Bolt computer for TBT directions. Last year I got off course and the Bolt computer kept beeping at me. This would be the second time on this route. It began at 11:11 AM. I rode my Canyon Endurace CF 7 bike but I changed out the wheels to DT Swiss Endura with 700x35mm tires at 70 psi. Most of the roads are chip’n seal and I wanted to see if the 700x35mm tires helped smooth them out. The tires helped some but the extra weight offset that. Tomorrow I’ll use the ICAN Cycling Alpha wheels with 700x28mm tires.

I took a side trip from the route to visit the Iwo Jima Monument at the Marine Military Academy. It stands tall. The wind had the flag straight out. This added a little distance to the route from Loop 499.

The wind was strong from the NE making for hard pedaling going any direction with an “N”. At the RoadRanger Store I turned south and my legs recovered some. I didn’t want to ride too many miles today and tire them out for tomorrow. When I moved to Loop 499 the route curved to the south letting me finish with a tailwind. Hopefully the wind dies down some by tomorrow. Weather: Start 73 degrees, humidity 53%, dew point 55, fair, wind NE 18 mph gusts 28 mph; Finish 77 degrees, humidity 40%, dew point 51, fair, wind NE 13 mph.
