About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

A Few Degrees Warmer. Biking Atascocita – Walden – Spanish Cove Drive

Texbiker.net Posted on February 20, 2024 by Rick AnkrumFebruary 20, 2024

A few more degrees warmer with sunshine makes a big difference riding outdoors. No question on what to wear, shorts, long sleeve jersey, and a wind jacket was all I needed. The wind behaved at 6 mph and the sun shined the whole ride. I chose my Canyon Endurace CF 7 bike to ride the same route as my last outdoor ride February 15th, Atascocita – Walden – Spanish Cove Drive. I thought my timing might put at the Old Atascocita road railroad crossing when the Amtrak Sunset Limited passed but it didn’t happen. Today’s 36.11 miles puts me closer to my 445 road mile goal for February with 361.7 miles. It looks promising to reach that goal and hopefully make up the 130 miles I was short in January. Road work continued on the shoulder east of Atascocita Shore Drive on FM1960 moving dirt beside the pavement. A few more days and the shoulder could be open for biking.

Weather: Start 71 degrees, humidity 64%, dew point 58.6, mostly clear, wind SW 6 mph; Finish 77 degrees, humidity 53%, dew point 58.4, mostly clear wind 6 mph.

22.9 Miles 190 Ft Elevation Gain, Sounds Like My Road Rides. Zwift Watopia Tempus Fugit

Texbiker.net Posted on February 19, 2024 by Rick AnkrumFebruary 19, 2024

I wanted to ride at least 20 miles today. Outside the temperature was improving from the 32.7 degrees when I got up around 6:30 AM. I needed to go someplace this afternoon so no time to wait for it to warm up more. Browsing through the Watopia routes after looking at the other available worlds the Tempus Fugit course looked just right with 105 feet elevation gain in 11.3 miles. The problem was the short distance. So I created a meetup setting the distance to 22.6 miles. I guessed the elevation gain would be over 200 feet but turned out to be just 190 feet, even better. I used Microsoft’s CoPilot (It appears CoPilot looked this up at ZwiftInsider.com and Zwift.com) and learned “The route starts and ends at the desert arch, which is also the finish line for the Fuego Flats sprint segment. Along the way, you will pass by various landmarks, such as the cliff dwellings, the old town, the oasis, and the Saddle Springs resort town. The route has two segments: the Fuego Flats Reverse segment, which is 7.1 km (4.4 miles) long, and the Fuego Flats sprint segment, which is 0.5 km (0.3 miles) long.” I set a Zwift 90 day PR on Fuego Flats Reverse of 13:09.8 cutting about 4 seconds from my previous PR in Zwift. No Strava PR though. This was the 6th ride on Tempus Fugit since I started Zwifting.

I used a different mic for audio. It was a small improvement.
