Looking Ahead to 2007

As 2007 begins what are some things I would like to see for Texas bicycling and myself?

  • Participate in more rides. This is the year to try rides I have not done before or not in several years. One of these is the Jalapeño Ride in Harlingen in February. This is a good reason to go south for the winter.
  • Create detailed ride maps for texbiker.net. This would include the route as well as the road conditions with pictures. Maybe some Google Earth type maps.
  • Increase ride safety awareness. I have been in two biking crashes. One was life threatening with surgery and the other was scary but not so damaging. Helmets saved my life each time.
  • Improve the bike shop directory and map locations. Local bike shops are important for many reasons. Support one or more near you.
  • Enjoy biking.

  1. If you haven’t seen it yet, take a look at gmap-pedometer.com. It allows you to map your own routes over Google maps and save them. It was created at first for runners (which I use it for, also), but it works for bike routes, driving routes, etc…

    Here’s an example of a route I sometimes ride that I’ve saved on gmap-pedometer:

    IMO, this would be a great way to store your detailed ride maps and link to them.
