Austin Bike Blog Posits: Dallas Bike Coordinator Gone? By Rick Ankrum, on January 24, 2009, 4:48 pm Kuddos to Dallas on finally moving forward on building bicycle infrastructure. This is especially great when you realize Dallas was rated one of the “Worst Cities For Cycling” by Bicycling Magazine and as Bike Friendly Oak Cliff has pointed out despite being the 9th largest city in the U.S., Dallas currently has 0 miles of bike lanes. (When Houston is kicking your butt on bike facilities, you know you’re bad.)
This is wonderful and a real step forward, so why the reference to the employment status of the Dallas Bicycle Coordinator in the title?

About Texbiker.net Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.
My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.
Thanks to my wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.
In 1999 Texbiker.net was born to help my fellow bikers have ready access to all of the information about the Texas bicycling scene.

“…so why the reference to the employment status of the Dallas Bicycle Coordinator in the title?”
Because PM Summers, the Dallas Bike Coordiantor, is well known for despising bike lanes. He’s on record as stating something to the effect of, as long as he’s the Dallas Bicycle Coordinator, there will be no bike lanes in Dallas. Unfortunately, I can’t find anything to back that up, but I’ve personally heard him say it.
In other words, if Bike Lanes are planned for Dallas, there must have been a change with the Dallas Bicycle Coordinator.
