Wrap My Head Around New Computer – Bike Ride to SH242
After watching stage 3 of the 2020 Tirreno Adriatico race and stage 11 of the Tour de France I decided it was my turn to be on the bike. I saddled up my Canyon Endurace bike with my new Lezyne Macro Plus bike computer and set out on the “Kingwood – SH 242 – Kingwood” route at 11:31 AM. I rode 37.24 miles pushing my week’s total to 110.99 miles. For some reason I thought the number was going to be lower. This positions me to ride 200 miles this week if the weather holds.
While the forecast said rain was not likely the sky showed otherwise as you can see in the video. The clouds held the temperature just below 90. The wind was strong at the start from a tailwind direction and by the time I finished at 2:41 PM it dropped down to 5 mph. What the weather looked liked: start 89 (63% humidity, 75 dew point), mostly cloudy, wind SE 15 mph gusts 21 mph. Finish 89 (68% humidity, 76.7 dew point), Clouds, wind N 5 mph. While I enjoyed the tailwind on the way to SH 242 I dreaded the return ride to the south but the wind slowed before I made the turn to the south.
Getting used to a new bike computer is not easy for me, at least. After using a Wahoo Element for 5 plus years and then switching to another brand I had a problem pushing the correct buttons at the start of the ride. I pushed what I thought would start the Macro Plus but watching the screen the speed and distance stayed at zero. I circled back home, opened the Lezyne app on my phone to check the settings. Everything looked correct. I started the ride again pushing the buttons in the order and then the speed and distance reported movement. At the end of the ride I remembered which button to push and saved the ride data. It uploaded to Strava and Relive. I connected the Macro Plus to my computer and downloaded the ride file. Success. I need to configure the second screen page since the first page doesn’t have enough spaces for what I like to see. The Macro Plus uses a different mount from the Wahoo but fortunately the mount on the Canyon Endurace included an insert for Lezyne computers.
The sound on the video is not very good so I will go back to using the mic adapter and lapel mic with the Hero 7 Black. On my Canyon I will mount the camera below the computer. The Hero 7 silver will be my handheld camera again.
My monthly goal mileage improved and now I am 63.81 miles ahead of the minimum pace. How it looks with today’s bike ride.
Not many segments on today’s route according to Strava. I must be the only biker going that way. I will need to add some.
