About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Dallas bike share company will pick up knocked over bikes

By: FOX4News.com Staff | www.fox4news.com

One Dallas bike share company says it will start helping its rivals and citizens by picking up knocked over bikes.

It’s one thing when the bikes are neatly aligned, but it can be unnerving when they block ramps for wheelchairs and strollers. It can be downright dangerous for people who are blind.

“If we don’t expect it to be there, we’re in trouble, we could trip up and fall,” said Blake Lindsay, Dallas …

Back the Blue Bake Sale to benefit Texas Peace Officers Memorial Ride

By Deanna Kirk | www.corsicanadailysun.com

Most of us remember where we were on Thanksgiving day when we received the news of Trooper Damon Allen.

While people enjoyed the remnants of their Thanksgiving dinner, Allen was ambushed, shot and killed while doing a traffic stop on the highway that day. He never returned home to his wife and children.

The Fourth Annual Texas Peace Officer Memorial Ride in support of all Texas C.O.P.S. chapters will take …

Transforming Elysian

bikehouston.org

On Martin Luther King Jr. Day a group of determined Northside citizens, BikeHouston, and Avenue CDC got together and built a 500-foot bike lane. Tape, chalk, brooms, shovels, and safety vests lay in a disheveled pile in the grass after, somehow, we completed building our vision of a safer street. We laid plywood over the potholes, created a “bulb out” to further separate cars from bicyclists and pedestrians, and removed all the parking from the street …

More Intervals, Higher Top Speed Indoor Bike Workout

Texbiker.net Posted on February 2, 2018 by Rick AnkrumFebruary 2, 2018

As predicted the weather was too chilly for me to bike ride outdoors so the Cycleops Fluid Trainer was pressed into service. The Blue Norcross AL bike has been resting in the trainer since it arrived several weeks ago waiting for those days when I don’t go outside. It got up to 58 degrees during the hour and 4 minutes I worked out, below my 60 degree threshold.

With a day off I decided to do intervals again. This time I changed the gearing and number of intervals. Before I did 7 intervals, today it went to 8. Previously the top gear was 36 x 14 but today I changed to 46 x 15. This increased the top speed to 25 mph when I did 103 RPM or more. I recovered for the rest of the mile I started the interval on. Thanks to the Pandora Electro Cardio Workout music it wasn’t too boring and gasping for air after hitting 25+ mph took my mind away from the effort. The workout summary below shows the interval peaks. Interesting max watts number.

I think Strava has started keeping track of my indoor workouts and not adding the mileage to the bike I use.

Probably I will be indoors again on Saturday with rain likely most of the day.

More Bike Share Companies Work to Appease City

BY ALEX MACON | www.dmagazine.com

Mobike is trying to call a truce with the other companies in Dallas, as the city continues to take a tougher stance on dockless bikes.

Mobike is the latest bike share company in Dallas to promise changes after public weeping and gnashing of teeth over cluttered trails and obstructed sidewalks prompted the city to adopt a more hands-on approach toward the spread of dockless bicycles.

First of all, the Beijing-based Mobike says it will cap its fleet in Dallas at 3,000 bikes until Dallas creates “guidelines,” the company …
