About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Not sure how Garmin mangled this one up. Or maybe I need new glasses. Did 25 of the 25 climbs but not sure how I missed a turn out to dam. That screwed me out of 20. All good / always a fun leg toasting. A Good Day on the Bike.

Had a fairly chilly ride beginning at Joshua Springs Park this morning. Thankfully, I warmed up quickly as we faced a strong headwind all the way out to Sisterdale. Everyone in this group is not only very strong, but also very friendly, and that’s what makes riding with them so much fun. As always, I am most thankful to my Lord and savior, Jesus Christ, for saving me both physically and spiritually, thereby enabling me to return to this sport that I love, and I thank Him for another safe ride without any mechanicals or flats.?

Stopping to regroup at the intersection of Hwy 473 \u0026 Zoeller Rd.

Tour of Watopia Stage 2, Triple Flat Loops

Texbiker.net Posted on November 11, 2023 by Rick AnkrumNovember 11, 2023

Cloudy, dreary and 58 degrees outside meant going to the Land of Zwift for today’s bike ride. Looking at some route options I chose Stage 2 Tour of Watopia Group B riding Triple Flat Loops. I didn’t expect to stay with the group not long after the start since most translate ride into a race. That’s what happened but several riders stayed in my vicinity for most of the ride. One lap on the route covering 22.5 miles with 533 feet of climbing. My results: 22.77 miles and 531 feet of elevation gain. No big hills with the climbing spread out over the route. This wasn’t my first ride on Triple Flat Loops, seven previous rides since March 13th, 2022. Two Zwift Sprint PR’s but no Strava PR’s. Only two sprints on the route.

The hiking and biking trails at McKinney’s Erwin Park have been re-established after neighboring development resulted in part of the trails becoming disconnected, city staff said at a Nov. 7 meeting.

How we got here

Construction on Ridgeline, a 663-lot residential development just east of Erwin Park, began Oct. 27, city staff said.

City officials received reports from residents Oct. 28 who said part of a trail at the park had been disconnected due to construction on the development.

City staff have since visited the site and …

Goats tackle poison ivy along Lady Bird Lake

The Trail Conservancy is turning to a rather unusual solution to its poison ivy problem: goats.

AUSTIN, Texas – The goats are back on the Butler Hike and Bike Trail!

The goats will be munching along the easternmost part of the trail between Longhorn Dam and International Shores at Lady Bird Lake for a little while longer, according to the City of Austin’s Park Rangers.

The city’s Park Rangers shared photos of the goats, as well as before and after shots of the vegetation on social media. …

Zwift Watopia Sugar Cookie, Including A Chunk Of Epic KOM

Texbiker.net Posted on November 10, 2023 by Rick AnkrumNovember 10, 2023

A slow moving wet cool front arrived during the early morning moving my bike ride indoors to Zwift. The other day in an email from ZwiftInsider.com the route information for the new Watopia Sugar Cookie route got my attention. Today was a good time for my first ride on the Sugar Cookie. The distance, 24.2 miles, was not too long and the climbing , 845 feet, was doable for this flatlander. I didn’t know that about half the climbing was going to be on the Epic KOM with 9% and 10% elevation. Fortunately the route took the Epic KOM Bypass and relaxed the climbing to mostly downhill to flat to the finish at 24.2 miles. I was out of the saddle climbing the Epic KOM when the 9% and 10% grades came. Strava lists the Epic KOM as a Cat 4 climb. Strava showed a PR on Woodland Sprint (45s). Zwift was more generous with PR on the Acropolis Sprint in addition to Strava. I got the Zwift Achievement Award completing the route.
