About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Vast 50,000 Mile Bicycle Trail Network Proposed

Texbiker.net Posted on December 29, 2008 by Rick AnkrumDecember 29, 2008

Associated Press reports that state transportation officials and bicyclist groups have a proposed a 50,000 mile bicycle trail network for the US. According to the article on MSNBC.com, “The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, working with the Adventure Cycling Association and other groups, recently approved a plan, four years in the making, that lays the foundation for the network. Now it’s up to each state to create the routes and put up signs.”

Winter Riding Solution

Texbiker.net Posted on December 27, 2008 by Rick AnkrumDecember 27, 2008

In case your winter riding conditions are a little challenging. The website does not say if the iron is Teflon coated for quick dismounting.

Texas Adventure Racing Cycling Event – Huntsville, TX

Texbiker.net Posted on December 26, 2008 by Rick AnkrumDecember 26, 2008

Saturday, November 14, 2009, 10:00 AM
Huntsville State Park
Huntsville, TX 77320

Now in its 4th year, this race has continued to grow and we expect another great turnout. Folks are already anticipating the excitement with many early sign ups. We would like to thank Dan for the hard work and dedication he has put into this race in the years past, it has always been fun and challenging.  This year  “The Willies” will be doing course design and race day activities. After this year we will be directing this race.

Formerly called The Texas Jail Break – The name had to be changed due to an actual Jail Break at the Huntsville Prison where a prison guard lost his life – Jail Break is not a popular term around the park these days – understandably so. Our condolences go out to the family members of that guard.

Daniel Norton Offers an Central Austin Sightseeing Tour

Texbiker.net Posted on December 26, 2008 by Rick AnkrumDecember 26, 2008

This is a 25-mile bike tour through central Austin that I’ve mapped in such a way as to make it easy to take shortcuts if you want. When doing similar routes in a group, we usually stop for coffee & carbs somewhere along the way. There are some very short sections where the traffic’s a little heavier, but 99% of it is low-speed/low-volume traffic. I recommend a road bike with slick tires for this route.

Visit Daniel Norton’s blog for route details.
