About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

Bike bridge on MoPac to provide safety for cyclists

Texbiker.net Posted on March 3, 2008 by Rick AnkrumMarch 3, 2008

from keyetv.com (Austin)

It’s a first of its kind in Texas: a hanging bicycle bridge, planned for a busy stretch of MoPac in Southwest Austin, where cyclists have to fight for room to ride.

The hanging bridge is planned for a section of MoPac, just south of Capital of Texas Highway. Right now cyclists looking to cross the greenbelt there must ride on MoPac, just feet away from traffic. There’s practically no other way around.

from pegasusnews.com

A handful of county roads will be partially closed to traffic Sunday, March 9, 2008, as hundreds of cyclists compete in the Jesuit Ranger Roundup, one of several spring cycling events sponsored by Texas High School Cycling League.

The county’s Public Works Department will be setting up barricades and traffic cones for Sunday’s race, which runs east from Celina High School and loops back in a circuit using the following county roads: 134, 105, 132, 135, 177 and 175. (See Map) Signs will also be posted along the race course to remind motorists of the event, which runs from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m
